Meet Zoey Hunter Vick

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zoey Hunter Vick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Zoey, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I think as a child if the 90’s artist kids did not have the options that they do today . Our school counselors just looked baffled as what to say or do with us and the options were so limited .. well you can be a highschool art teacher, architect or advertising? And then they would default to have you thought about the army? So it definitely made for confusing times if none of those limited options were where your creativity lied . For me I felt really lost with that and turned to animation and film school , it did give me some spark and hope but it wasn’t a right fit either .. I definitely still wandered lost with tattooing always there in my mind as I just flipped through tattoo magazines looking at a world that seemed unattainable. Once I just took the leap and kind of turned my back on society’s norms it was like being free , after some bumps in the road I just knew I was home .. I can’t really explain those early years , I’m grateful for the lessons I learned along the way but I definitely can say once I really found my footing and my true people I knew I was where I belonged and as the years have gone by I’ve never wavered from that , I know my people and I know myself … I’m extremely grateful I never stopped listening to my inner self an just stayed the course .

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m about to enter my third decade of tattooing , I’ve tattooed all over our country built a couple shops and found my home. I’ve really found that I’m the type of artist that finds my comfort in knowing my people . My shop is a home to many , we bond in here and create awesome projects together . When I relocated to Texas from Northern CA I was very concerned I wasn’t going to be able to recreate that tight nit community of regulars , when it started to evolve I realized this is truly who I am an where I can thrive the most . Having the type of clients where I tattoo the moms, dads , grandparents and then the kids as they turn 18 is what really fuels my creativity. The relaxed environment of all of us knowing each other and the laughter, stories .. hard times we all share together gives me the drive to always do as best as I can for them .

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

There is definitely more than three , if you leave out the obvious skill set you need to tattoo I’d say being humble , never stop learning , find your “home” . Everything else falls into place if you can do those three things . Leave the rockstar attitude at the door- there is always someone better than you and there is always someone who can learn from you . Every tattooer you come across can teach you something , we never stop learning in this trade .. be open to it and try and pay it foward .. and find your place , I was incredibly lost after death took over my life early on .. it took me far to long to really open up my heart and soul to finding a true home in my work life and in my personal life .. embracing that isn’t easy but it’s definitely worth it .

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

At this stage I would love to find like minded artists who want to do community art shows , installations or even murals for schools or playgrounds etc . Life has a sort of hard grind going on these days .. people living paycheck to paycheck lots of hostility in the air .. it would be nice to be able to put in an art show and just enjoy good conversation, food and enjoy each others company with a lot of creativity filling the room .
