Meet Zosia Garcia Sledzinska

We recently connected with Zosia Garcia Sledzinska and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Zosia, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

You know how they say you’re replaceable? Well, I disagree 100% with that statement. You might find someone else to do the job, but you’re never going to get me. I’m a woman, I’m gay, and I’m Mexican. I’m definitely a minority in this country, but that is exactly what makes me powerful and how I stand out. People may look at you because they want you to fail, but while they’re watching, you show them all the good things you have. I’m great at my job—I’m a talented producer and photographer. My father taught me to have a strong work ethic, my mom taught me that there’s NOTHING in this world that’s unachievable, and both of them taught me to give my best every single time I take on a new job. I’ve learned from my family how to be generous, friendly, and how to have fun at work. We’re some of the few people who get to play while working. We get to make movies, tv shows. shoot models, and work with actors. I’m more than blessed to love what I do as much as I do. I wasn’t always this optimistic, but my wife has helped me see the beauty in life and understand my value. She’s helped me realize that focusing on the problem (even though it’s a producer’s job) won’t make things better or more fun, but the opposite.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a photographer with a love for capturing male fashion. Over time, I’ve ventured into the world of unit photography on set, and it’s been a game-changer—I’ve completely fallen for it. Shooting for brands is one of my favorite things; it’s where my artistic flair meets strategic thinking. But I’m not just behind the lens. I’m also a producer. I’ve produced reality shows for Netflix, Peacock, Bravo, and more, but right now, I’m diving into scripted content—it’s where my passion truly lies, and the direction I see my career heading.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My advice would be:

#1 You’re not your career. There’s more to life than just work—like family. It took me a while to realize I’m not defined by what I photograph or produce. Sure, it makes me proud, but family and friends matter way more than working non-stop and not having a life.

#2 Don’t let anyone walk over you. It doesn’t matter if it’s the biggest company, the top TV show, a famous director, executive, or actor—never believe you’re undeserving of what you dream about. If you’re dreaming it, it’s because you can make it happen. Some people might be intimidated by your shine, and that’s when they try to make you doubt yourself. If you ever encounter this, be respectful, say thank you, learn what you’d never do and what good things you gained from the experience, and move on. Always put yourself first.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m definitely always looking for people to collaborate with—it’s the only way to get to the top. Creating a team and sticking with it is key. I generally collaborate with a bunch of actors and models for my projects. Recently, I’ve had the chance to hire some amazingly talented crew members in the film industry, and that has been incredible. So, hit me up!
