Michelle Jewsbury’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Michelle Jewsbury shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Michelle, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I love to have fun. Recently I went to a Dave Matthews Band weekend concert at the Gorge in Washington state. I believe it is important to step back in order to step back in!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I transform personal stories into powerful narratives, and I am the founder and CEO of Unsilenced Voices. My mission is to empower survivors of pain and trauma, and I have become an internationally recognized speaker, coach, and advocate. Renowned for my expertise in translating adversity into business and personal success, I have spoken on stages across the globe. By sharing my journey of breaking the cycle of abuse, I inspire individuals to transform their own stories into impactful narratives. As the driving force behind Unsilenced Voices, I am dedicated to helping business owners, entrepreneurs, and organizations harness the transformative power of their stories.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My Daddy. He was in the US Army for over 30 years and showed me the value of hard work. He was a great provider and gave me the courage to take impossible leaps of faith.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I believe that people are more empathetic towards others IF they have gone through life experiences themselves. I would never want to repeat my abuse, however, because I went through adversity I have the honor of guiding others out of the darkness.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to the amazing women and children in Sierra Leone. They African continent as a whole is full of beautiful people who would literally give you the shirt off their back. I will always support survivors and will always do my best to open doors to help them thrive.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Worrying about the future. It is said that 80% of what we worry about never happens, so why do we do it?
