We’re looking forward to introducing you to Montez Brown-Mobley. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Montez, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Recording music is something I always get lost in. Hours can fly by when I’m creating music. At times I even forget to eat or do anything else. This is one of my favorite places to be in, creative mode. Also making music does help me find myself again too. Brings me to different places and times in life that reminds me of me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Montez but most know me as Young Tez. I’m an artist both musically and creatively (drawing & fashion design). I create possibilities and bring thoughts to life. I give people an escape through my music and bring them into my world with my custom shirt brand. I really like bridging gaps and I take pride in creating.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
A lot of time people’s bonds get broken due to money. Once money gets involved, things get shaky. Greed gets in the way of great possibilities and it’s sad to see that when it happens. And to answer what restores them, that’s a tough one because in most cases they don’t get restored. That’s something we all are still trying to figure out.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering teaches you lessons that success will never teach you. The intricate details you learn through the suffering process, but when you succeed you never really learn the small reasons why. You learn things like this in sports the more you excel. From shooting a basketball the correct way or throwing a pitch in baseball. The higher you go, the more you learn, but had to suffer through doing it wrong most of your younger years playing.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I’d think they say God, family and music. That’s all I’ve been about and that’s all I’m still about. I try to keep it true and real. I believe everyone that knows me knows this about me.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Creating a music catalog where I own all the rights and collecting precious metals like gold and silver.
