We recently had the chance to connect with Mrs Payal Rohatgi and have shared our conversation below.
Payal, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
Yes I stood up for the rights of my parents with their society committee members and they filed a fake police case against me with all fake witness. This showed the importance of recording evidences and being digital savy in todays times of social media to me. Also as a celebrity I realised how a celebrity can be used for personal revenge and how we need to approach things differently from the common citizen of the country. We need to be more careful as celebrities are intentionally misused too.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Well I would like my fans and followers to go to my website www.payalrohatgi.com and get to know me better.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The earliest memory of feeling powerful is NOW when I realised how controlled certain situations can be in todays times of democracy and digitalisation. Its best to accept this and move ahead with positivity so that we understand that there is actually no privacy in todays times of social media and we need to keep our thoughts in our minds and speak what we know may or may not cause reactions. So be accountable for your words. And understand that true privacy in only in your minds so make peace with your thoughts and do good karma.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Well my marriage has not been a bed of roses and its been tough so for me it was actually suffering. I realised that the business venture that I started didnt actually was dependant on labour and staff and that third party dependance was very eye opening for me. The way my husband changed his mindset towards me when I tried to build business showed me that as a woman actress I need to keep myself as priority and not my marriage. Marriage works only if I work first and not the other way around. The way the society deserted me and my fake friends showed their true colors only made me understand the world better. I never expected anything from anyone as I have done a lot of reality shows but still the way society loves to watch the TAMASHA thinking that as a celebrity we are facing issues shows how strong we need to be mentally to understand this indifference.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lies that the acting industry tells its members is that its ‘one big family’. All it cares is individual gains trying to use the names that are selling in the market at that moment. So for newcomers as well as veterans of the industry I would say that try to always maintain the equilibrium and keep your mind balanced in success and failure. The world doesnt care of your journey or your insecurities but only how they can use your success for business gains. So the creative fire that makes you an actor in the first place cant be the only guiding light in your journey in the industry but a level headed approach towards rational living of life is important.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
The image of me being aggressive, negative and manipulative is the only thing people will misunderstand from my legacy. I have been honest, assertive and street smart in my journey and my legacy is built on that. But when we deal with outside pressure then certain people crumble but certain people fight back. I have always believed in fighting back as we live once and God has given us the right to live life on our terms and the right to fulfill our dreams as long as we dont do bad karma.
The definition of bad karma may be individual dependant but I would let God decide the individual intentions and the repercussions there-forth. I have never intentionally harmed anyone but my efforts to create awareness or handle a situation which caused immense hurt to me may have been misunderstood. But the world will always remember Payal Rohatgi as a woman who stood her ground and fought for her dreams and kept herself alive in all situations.
