We recently had the chance to connect with Natalie Efua France and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalie Efua, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I used to be afraid of stepping into the “dark”, the spaces I couldn’t see or plan for. I wanted every step mapped, every outcome certain. But now, I feel called to walk into the unknown, to trust it, to lean into it.
It’s not about having all the answers—it’s about showing up, being present, and letting life unfold. What once felt scary now feels alive. It’s in that space of uncertainty that I’m finding freedom, creativity, and a kind of peace I never thought I’d have. I’m learning to move through it, and more than anything, I’m learning to love it here.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Natalie Efua France — a Ghanaian-American multi-artist, actor, DJ, and founder of The Efua Experience, CLEFUÁ, and Natwork Collective. I’m passionate about storytelling, creativity, and connection—whether through film, jewelry design, or music. My brand embodies the philosophy “Embracing Flaws, Uplifting All – EFUA,” celebrating individuality and confidence through authentic expression.
I recently curated my first art exhibition in London, showcasing my handmade statement earrings, after wrapping up a sold-out performance at the Lambeth Fringe. For now, I’m taking things a little slower—enjoying time with family and friends, and reflecting on where I’ve been, where I am, and where I’m going.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I think the part of me that relied on hyper-independence has served its purpose. It was a shield, a survival mechanism that helped me navigate life when I couldn’t rely on anyone else. But it also came with a cost—I burned out, isolated myself, and carried more than I needed to alone.
Now, I’m learning that I don’t have to do it all myself. I’m blessed with a life partner, a sisterhood, and a community I can lean on. There’s a freedom and a peace in receiving support that I never allowed myself to feel before—it’s teaching me that strength isn’t just in carrying the weight alone, but in sharing it with the village around me.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her how precious she is, and that she is exactly where she needs to be. All of the struggles, the doubts, the hard moments—they’re shaping her, and it will all pay off. I’d tell her to trust herself, to trust the journey, and to know she is enough, exactly as she is.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to the freedom and empowerment of all marginalized communities, no matter how long it takes. I lift voices that are too often silenced, create space for stories that deserve to be seen and heard, and use my platform, my storytelling, and my experiences to intercede on behalf of those who are overlooked. I dedicate myself fully to justice, representation, and equality, and I hold myself accountable to this work every day.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m doing the things I love simply for the joy they bring me—mixing music on my DJ decks, designing earrings, or creating films. In those moments, I’m fully present, completely in my element, and everything else fades away.
