Abigail , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience draws upon a variety of experiences, including the challenges I encountered while navigating life’s uncertainties. As I reflect on my journey, it becomes evident that resilience has been a constant companion in my pursuit of personal growth and success.
From a young age, I faced adversity that tested my strength and resolve. Whether it was personal setbacks, health issues, or the twists and turns of life, I refused to let these obstacles define me. Instead, I embraced resilience as a mindset, a way of approaching challenges with a determination to overcome.
In moments of fear and doubt, I found solace in seeking support from loved ones. Their encouragement, empathy, and unwavering belief in my abilities became pillars of strength. Knowing that I had a support system that had my back provided me with the strength to face adversity head-on.
Overcoming mental health struggles has been another significant aspect of my journey. Navigating through anxiety and depression taught me the importance of self-care, seeking professional help, and cultivating healthy coping mechanisms. By acknowledging and addressing my mental health, I developed resilience and a deeper understanding of my own inner strength.
Embracing change and adapting to new circumstances has been a crucial skill that has fostered my resilience. Life is inherently unpredictable, and being able to adjust my mindset and plans accordingly has been instrumental in my ability to bounce back from setbacks. By remaining flexible and open to new possibilities, I have discovered hidden strengths and unlocked doors to personal growth.
Humor, as they say, is the best medicine. I learned to infuse a touch of humor into the most challenging situations, allowing me to find lightness even amidst the darkest moments. This ability to find levity not only brought relief but also served as a reminder that adversity in life doesn’t always have to be serious. Sometimes, a good laugh can be the catalyst for regaining perspective and strength.
In summary, my resilience has been shaped by a multitude of experiences, from overcoming personal setbacks to navigating the complexities of life. Seeking support, addressing mental health, adapting to change, finding inspiration in others’ stories, and embracing humor have all contributed to my resilience. As I continue to grow and face new challenges, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the unwavering spirit of resilience that guides me along the way.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Embarking on my entrepreneurial journey just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic was a leap into the unknown. It felt like navigating uncharted waters with limited visibility. The challenges that lay ahead were daunting, to say the least. However, I firmly believe that it is during the most testing times that our true resilience shines through.
As the pandemic swept across the world, my business was forced to temporarily close its doors due to government regulations. It was a period of uncertainty, filled with sleepless nights and countless questions. But rather than succumbing to despair, I saw this as an opportunity for introspection and adaptation.
During that unexpected hiatus, I focused on refining my business strategies, enhancing my skills, and honing my craft. It was a time of introspection and growth, allowing me to emerge stronger and better equipped to face the challenges that awaited me when the world eventually reopened.
A year later, when the government finally permitted us to resume operations, an incredible moment occurred. I was honored to receive the prestigious ‘Best of Austin’ award. It was a humbling, touching, and unforgettable experience. This recognition not only validated the hard work and dedication I had poured into my business, but it also served as a testament to the resilience and unwavering commitment that propelled me forward.
My decision to specialize in permanent makeup was driven by a deep desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. I sought a career that would allow me to empower individuals, instilling them with confidence and helping them embrace their natural beauty. It is a gratifying experience to witness the transformation and joy that comes from my clients’ newfound self-assurance.
In the face of adversity, I have learned to navigate with a blend of determination, adaptability, and a touch of humor. While the journey has been filled with its fair share of challenges, I have discovered the power of maintaining a positive outlook and finding levity in the most unexpected situations. It is through these moments of lightheartedness that we are reminded of our shared humanity and the strength that lies within us.
I’m thrilled to announce my plans for expanding my services. Alongside permanent makeup, I’ll be offering powder brow (PMU) training and exploring fine line tattoos. With powder brow training, I aim to empower aspiring professionals to create flawless, natural-looking results. And by delving into fine line tattoos, I’ll be able to create intricate, detailed designs for clients looking to make a bold statement. These additions will elevate my expertise and provide clients with more options to express their unique style. I’m excited to embark on this journey of growth and creativity!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my own journey as an entrepreneur, I can’t help but emphasize the profound impact that resilience, adaptability, and unwavering self-belief have had on my path.
When I first embarked on this entrepreneurial adventure, I encountered my fair share of obstacles and uncertainties. There were moments when self-doubt would creep in, and fear would whisper its discouraging words. However, I refused to let fear dictate my path. Instead, I embraced resilience as my guiding force.
One invaluable piece of advice I would give to those starting their journey is to not allow fear to determine your path. Fear has a sneaky way of creeping in, especially during uncertain times. I vividly recall the fear that arose when the pandemic hit, and I questioned whether pursuing my business was the right decision. The fear of not having a thriving business during such challenging times almost deterred me from my path. Through the ups and downs, I learned to bounce back from setbacks and keep moving forward. It wasn’t always easy, but I knew deep down that every obstacle was an opportunity for growth and learning.
Adaptability quickly became a close companion on this entrepreneurial journey. The business landscape is ever-evolving, and being willing to adapt and embrace change has been instrumental in my ability to thrive. I have discovered the power of staying curious, remaining open-minded, and continuously seeking new knowledge and insights that can help me navigate shifting circumstances and emerging trends.
Perhaps the most critical quality that has shaped my journey is unwavering self-belief. I’ve learned to trust in my abilities, my vision, and the unique value I bring to the table. While doubt may occasionally creep in, I surround myself with a supportive network of mentors and like-minded individuals who uplift and encourage me. Their belief in me strengthens my own self-belief and propels me forward.
So, to those who are early in their entrepreneurial journey, I offer this advice: Cultivate resilience, embrace adaptability, and nurture unwavering self-belief. Recognize that fear may arise, but it doesn’t have to define your path. Stay committed to your vision, surround yourself with a supportive network, and never underestimate the power of your own self-belief.
Remember, entrepreneurship is a personal journey, and it’s your unique experiences and qualities that will shape your path. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and stay true to yourself. With resilience, adaptability, and unwavering self-belief as your compass, you have the power to create a remarkable and fulfilling entrepreneurial journey that reflects your own unique vision and purpose.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Looking back at the past 12 months, I would say that my biggest area of growth and improvement has been in overcoming the tendency to compare myself to other business owners. It’s a common trap that many entrepreneurs fall into, and I was no exception. However, I made a conscious decision to shift my mindset and focus on celebrating others’ achievements rather than comparing myself to them.
Instead of allowing comparison to breed self-doubt or discouragement, I remind myself that everyone is on their unique chapter in life. Each entrepreneur has their own journey, with its own set of challenges, triumphs, and timeline. Embracing this perspective has been transformative for me.
I’ve learned to genuinely celebrate the successes of other artists and entrepreneurs, recognizing the hard work, dedication, and talent that brought them to where they are today. Rather than feeling envious or inadequate, I channel my energy into cheering them on and finding inspiration in their accomplishments.
Simultaneously, I cultivate a deep belief in my own potential and journey. I hold the unwavering belief that one day, I will celebrate my own successes and milestones. This shift in mindset has allowed me to focus on my own growth, progress, and unique path. I’ve come to appreciate that my journey is unfolding exactly as it should, and I find joy in the present moment, knowing that it’s a stepping stone toward my future success.
Overcoming the comparison trap has freed up mental and emotional energy, allowing me to invest more fully in my own development, creativity, and the relationships I build along the way. It has also nurtured a sense of contentment and gratitude for where I am in my journey right now.
My advice to fellow entrepreneurs is to embrace your own journey, celebrate the successes of others, and cultivate a mindset of abundance and gratitude. Remember that comparison only hinders your growth and robs you of the joy and fulfillment that comes from appreciating your own unique path. Trust that you are exactly where you need to be and have faith in your ability to achieve your own version of success.
By shifting our focus from comparison to celebration, we create a supportive and uplifting community where everyone can thrive and contribute their unique talents. In this mindset, we not only foster our own growth and improvement but also inspire and empower others to do the same.
