We were lucky to catch up with Albert Stallworth Jr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Albert with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my childhood. As a child, my dad had me always busy doing something around the house and yard. If something needed to be done him and I were always busy. As I got older I began to do things before I was ask to do them. Certain chores were delegated to me to help keep our home a well working machine. Learning from my dad, I picked up on hands on skills I never knew I had. That later carried on into my teens and adulthood. Lazy was never something that described me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
What I do is give A+ customer service, I just happen to do it via residential garage door and opener sales, service and installation. Today, society seems to have taken customer service for granted and gotten away from it. When a complete stranger calls your business and request a service to be performed on their home, that is a privilege that out of all the other businesses they called yours. I don’t take that lightly. So, it is my duty to make sure I leave a lasting impression on them so they will leave reviews and refer me to their family and friends. Above all, the most special thing about what I do is that I get to meet some amazing people and help them with their garage door problems with a smile.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Humility, Willingness to learn from others and a Strong Work Ethic. My advice would be to never think you are the only one going through what you’re going through in your journey. There is always someone else who is at the same stage as you. Always be humble so you can be approachable to someone wanting to show you the ropes and teach you so you wont make the same mistakes as they did. That alone is crucial, never be so much of a know it all that you can not reach out to someone for help or advice. Pride is a journey killer! Hit the ground running. The beginning stages of your journey are the most important to establishing yourself in your field of expertise. Becoming complacent will hinder you from achieving your goals.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
My current challenge is not getting inside of my own head. Things are going well for my business but I don’t know whether to expand or stay in my current position. Hire or keep doing it all myself. Which becomes another stepping out on faith situation again as when I did when I started. Lots of soul searching and contemplating my future goes into effect in regards to this. The decision isn’t easy because its takes time, energy and resources to move in either direction. I have business mentors that I run ideas by and take heed to what they say, good or bad. I weigh my risk and compare them to my potential gain. So I can say that the resolve to my challenges are pending….
