Meet Alena Zozulenko

We recently connected with Alena Zozulenko and have shared our conversation below.

Alena, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism is rooted in the belief that, despite the challenges and setbacks we encounter, there is always potential for growth, positive change, and resilience in the human spirit. It’s fostered by the inspiring stories of individuals who have overcome adversity, the beauty of nature that reminds me of the world’s inherent goodness, and the power of human connection that fuels hope for a better future. Moreover, it comes from the understanding that optimism is not just a passive feeling but an active mindset that can drive us to create the change we want to see in the world.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am both an artist and a tattooist. My career initially led me down the path of architecture, a journey I embraced for many years while concurrently nurturing my talent for crafting intricate black graphic artworks. However, a turning point emerged when I ventured into the world of tattooing.

The catalyst for this transformation was the persistent encouragement of my friends who recognized my adept drawing skills. What began as a playful experiment soon evolved into something more profound. Eventually, not only my friends but also acquaintances of acquaintances sought my designs. It was at this juncture that I came to realize I was juggling two vocations.

Intriguingly, my architectural background often weaves its influence into my artistic creations. I find myself naturally infusing architectural elements into my work, a reflection of my architectural roots. If you peruse my portfolio, you’ll notice that animal depictions are a rare find; instead, it predominantly showcases insects or serpents.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my journey, persistence, adaptability, and networking were crucial. My advice to those starting out: Embrace failure as a learning opportunity, keep learning, network, stay authentic, and be patient. Success often takes time.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
It’s been hard for me to realize that I need to learn how to schedule my time properly. Properly planning one’s time is crucial, as our bodies have finite resources. Efficient time management ensures that we allocate our energy and focus effectively. It allows us to prioritize tasks, maintain work-life balance, and pursue personal growth, all while preserving our physical and mental well-being. When we recognize that time is a valuable resource, we make more informed choices, striving for productivity and fulfillment.
