We were lucky to catch up with Alexa Ritter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexa, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
As someone with a strong relationship with the Lord, I know that my true worth and purpose comes from Him. This is what guides each step that I take and every decision that I make.
Beyond this firm faith foundation, I try to be very self aware of what inspires me, motivates me, energizes me, and makes life feel magical. I truly feel that we are created with a purpose, on purpose; the Lord puts things on your heart, gives you certain skills and passions, for a reason.
I’ve come to realize that when I run in the direction of the things that fuel the fire in my soul, I am running after my purpose; I’m running after who I was created to be, ultimately leaving me inspired while hopefully inspiring others too.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
So that you get the broader, bigger picture of my background, I studied Marketing and Fashion at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio (where I’m from).
With this degree, I initially started working for a remote marketing agency, then moved to become a Social Media Assistant in Nashville, TN (where I lived briefly), and it all led me to where I am today – as the Executive Assistant for a Serial Entrepreneur in Utah!
Through my role as an EA, I do typical things that you would expect of an assistant, but I’m also given a lot of incredible opportunity to learn new skills and foster my passions in a whole new way. I’ve also been given the ability to connect with and work with the most amazing people. At the end of the day, the best part of what I do is who I work for, the people that I get to meet, and the passions that I get to expand upon creatively.
As a side hustle, I’ve been a digital creator (small following, but still passionate) for a few years now! I’ve always loved fashion and photography, among other creative avenues, so social media was the perfect mix of everything for me. I love working with brands and building relationships with the amazing people that work there – a few of my favs are Vestique, Altar’d State, Called to Surf, Albion Fit, and more. Whenever I’m doing something for my personal social media platform, it allows the creative in me to feel fulfilled and inspired in ways that nothing else allows me to feel.
It’s my hope one day to take everything that I have learned through both professional careers and through social media, and create a business of my own.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three attributes/skills that I feel were the most impactful for me were organizational skills, communication/networking, authenticity.
I’ve always been an organized and disciplined person – my mom likes to say that she thinks that I walked out of the womb with a briefcase lol. Being organized and disciplined has allowed me to cultivate a life that I’m proud to live. It’s allowed me to be able to keep track of everything and allowed me to time manage well. My best piece of advice here is to get a planner (or use Google Calendar) and master the skill of time blocking.
Communication is BIG for me; I’m a firm believer that in order to be successful, you have to be able to communicate effectively. I also put networking with this, because you need to be able to communicate well to network. Networking is what has allowed me to gain a lot of the opportunities that I have had/have; it really is a beautiful thing that we have social media right at our fingertips. Embrace the generation that we are in and use social media as a tool to catapult you to your goals.
Lastly, I think being an authentic human is crucial to living the life that you were created to live. You’re going to have things that you have to do that you won’t always love, but for the most part, make sure that you are only doing things that align with who you are. Embrace your talents, interests, personalities, etc.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I’ve said this to my closest friends and family, but I truly think that 2023 was my pruning year. It was the year I met my favorite person and started dating him, I started working a job that I truly love, and I moved to the place that I want to build my life in (Utah is the best. There I said it.).
Throughout 2023, I felt lost in who I was as I was in the process of finding her. All of the growth and change allowed me to navigate who I truly was and who I wanted to be even more than I ever did before.
Life is a never-ending journey of finding yourself, and recognizing that is such a beautiful thing. Being at peace with where you are while working for where you want to go is something that I hope we all can navigate together.
