We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandria Belk a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandria , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Throughout the years, I’ve learned to celebrate my wins. No achievement is too small to celebrate. I also had to let go of perfectionism. We are all human and no one is perfect. At times I put so much pressure on myself to be successful, so I must constantly remind myself that I’m doing a good job. The goal should not be perfection, but progression. Lastly, I don’t compare myself to anyone. Although this is extremely hard when you live in the social age where everyone’s life is public. Most of social media isn’t real, so comparison causes unnecessary added stress. Everyone has their own journey and what’s for you will never miss you.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a creative. I turn ideas into reality. I specialize in content creation, social media management, marketing, and consulting. I create food and lifestyle content to bring awareness to brands, restaurants, and people all over. I help restaurants with rebranding, concept design, and menu development. What started out as a genuine love for food has allowed me to create a platform help restaurants grow and succeed.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three areas of knowledge that has been impactful to my journey are: 1. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. You never know what could happen from your boldness.
2. Align yourself with like-minded people. We shouldn’t always be in competition with people. You can learn a lot from people in your same industry. Reach out and try to form relationships with others. This can help you grow, learn, and expand.
3. Don’t stop learning. Whatever your expertise is there is always something more that you can do or learn. Read, watch videos, take classes to be the best you that you can be.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I watched my parents work hard my entire life. They would always tell me that life does not have any short cuts and if you want to be successful you have to put in the work. I never heard them complain about their jobs or any obstacles they came across. They just did what needed to be done to provide for their family. Now as an adult I appreciate how strict they were and the work ethic they displayed.
