We were lucky to catch up with Alexandria Higgs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandria, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome involved a conscious effort to reinforce my self-worth. Reminding myself that I deserve to occupy the rooms and tables I find myself in, I go through a checklist of my skills, assets, and the journey that led me to my current position. Keeping myself grounded becomes crucial when imposter syndrome tries to surface, allowing me to maintain confidence in my abilities and the value I bring to various situations. This practice has been instrumental in combating self-doubt and embracing my achievements with a sense of authenticity.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
With nearly two decades of experience in the live music industry, my journey led me to establish my own artist management and consulting firm in 2020. While the intensity of the industry eventually led to burnout, I’ve continued to provide consulting services to a select group of clients and am in the process of reopening my firm, bringing a refreshed perspective. Seeking a creative outlet during this transition, I launched the podcast “Words from a Warrior,” which has been a fulfilling venture. However, recognizing my passion for written expression, I am concurrently working on a book with the same title, poised to resume the podcast once it’s published.
As I navigate a rebrand, I’ve discovered a greater affinity for consulting over artist management and look forward to welcoming new clients. This evolution reflects my commitment to finding the most fulfilling and effective ways to contribute to the dynamic world of live music, ensuring that my expertise continues to make a positive impact. Stay tuned for exciting developments on the horizon, including the relaunch of my firm and the publication of “Words from a Warrior.”
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that stood out as impactful were discernment, the ability to avoid unnecessary comparisons, and staying focused while actively networking. Discernment allowed me to make informed decisions, distinguishing between opportunities that aligned with my goals and those that didn’t. Avoiding the trap of comparison helped maintain authenticity, fostering individual growth without undue pressure. Staying focused on my objectives while actively networking opened doors to valuable connections and opportunities. For those early in their journey, my advice is to cultivate discernment by honing decision-making skills, resisting comparing oneself to others, and striking a balance between staying focused on goals and building a supportive network. This balance can pave the way for personal and professional success.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My family and friends have played a pivotal role in helping me overcome various challenges and in building the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge necessary for success. Their unwavering support keeps me grounded, focused, and level-headed. During difficult times, they provide valuable perspectives that encourage me to take a step back and reassess situations. Their collective guidance has been instrumental in shaping my journey toward personal and professional growth, fostering a sense of resilience and adaptability.
