Meet Alexandria Tillard-Gates

We recently connected with Alexandria Tillard-Gates and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandria, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
To be honest, my entire life I have worked with people of color who have experienced unthinkable traumas. This has been the case on a professional level as well as a personal level. Over the years these relationships have shown me that we are all resilient and my optimism with regards to healing is because of this truth.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the Founder of HerHealing and HerHealing Community. I provide therapeutic services to women, couples, and children and train therapists to work with communities of color as well as trauma. On February 4th we will have our first Healing Session of the year at our new location on Melrose! For this Healing Session we are partnering with Akilah Flynn the founder of Nayked Alchemy to set intentions for the new year!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that I believe have been most impactful to my journey are Determination, Flexibility, and Faith. For those just starting our on your journey never forget your reason, your reason for embarking on this journey will help you to remain determined. When things get rough and it seems like you made a wrong decision or might have heard wrong from God, remembering your initial reason and purpose will help you to stay flexible and tap into your faith.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
A book that has impacted the way I view life, including my career, is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. The novel reminds me that living my purpose and pursuing my dreams, no matter the obstacles will always result in a masterpiece, even if the journey doesn’t look like the one I imagined.
