We recently connected with Alexus Yancey’Duncan and have shared our conversation below.
Alexus, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
“Lexilu Handbags were created when I tried to find a crossbody bag and fanny pack that fit me while going on vacation to Vegas in 2021. I had the same problem when I was going to Jamaica; after that I had enough. I was determined when I came back home, I was going to fix the problem. Part of being an entrepreneur is finding a need and meeting it. I know I am not the only plus size woman that had this problem. I started designing the bag and it was not until I was in church and saw my dad playing the guitar; (and he is a pretty big guy) I noticed the guitar strap wrap around him and that is when it hit me; that the straps would be custom guitar straps.”
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
“I am a wife, mom, pastor’s kid, and entrepreneur. I am also a daycare boss. I love what I do, and I love being an entrepreneur. I am new to this industry. Daycare is completely different. I do not have to do a lot of social media and posting about the center. Most of my customers come by word of mouth; but in this industry it takes a lot of promoting. Lexilu Handbags takes patience and perseverance. I think if most people knew there was a brand that would fit me comfortably, they would but it.” “There are not a lot of things that benefit plus size women. Usually when people create things for plus size women, they are not cute or stylish; but my bags are cute, stylish, and affordable. And one of the things I love about my bags is that they can fit everyone! They are adjustable to all sizes which makes them pretty dope.”

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One thing will be consistency, and order to suceed in anything you have to be consistency.
number two will. be knowledgeable of your market. You have to know who your target customer. is and market to them
number three will be perseverance in anything you do their is going be challenges . So you can’t quit. Even when it get hard.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents has been a major support system in my life, They have enstill in me hard work. And nothing ever is just giving to you . You have to work hard.
