We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alfredo Mele. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alfredo below.
Alfredo, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I define myself as someone sensitive and with deeply rooted values, which are oriented to give the best and make the people I care about feel proud, the name of Alfredo Mele is a legacy of immense value and I try to make it so recognized. Professionally I am meticulous, meticulous and careful of the details, whether it is personal work or a commission, I try to put in the work all my effort so that the product reflects my passion for excellence in both form and message, I believe that everything one does should be consubstantiated with excellence, not as a merely physical work for which an income is received, but as a way of living, of being and of assuming the challenges and commitments that come my way. On the other hand, my father, who was always my mentor and main support in many aspects of my life, encouraged me and guided me towards a career in Industrial Design, convinced that in this area I could develop my artistic potential, the rest is history.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an industrial designer and visual artist, specializing in structural design, art production, sculpture, and photography with more than 20 years of experience. I am the founder of the company Indsign Industrial & Graphic, a company dedicated to design and art production.
My work has had a presence in more than 15 countries and currently resides in the United States of America, being the latter my third base of operations performing projects of international scope in art, design, and advertising being highlighted by the professionalism, knowledge in the field, and solutions.
I have been awarded multiple prizes and mentions, which position me as one of the most relevant integral artists of the moment.
As a visual artist, I am characterized by the research and implementation of concepts of language, communication, folklore, and spirituality, using geometric shapes and patterns that start the construction of the visual and sculptural elements of my pieces, emphasizing the ephemeral of human behavior. Of great constructive detail and complexity, a structural characteristic in each of my works.
My main seal is dedication and technique, that is why many artists, museums, galleries, and art spaces have put their trust in me for the design and development of their concepts and production of their works; that is why today I am known as the artist of the artists.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1- Excellence.
I am a firm believer in excellence, as I mentioned before. I think that if anything characterizes my work is the fact of seeking excellence in every detail, to present a product or a piece that is visually and spiritually transcendent, because the artist seeks to communicate and, whether it is a commission or a personal work, you should always keep in mind that the message reaches the viewer, for that reason my north is that all pieces have exhibition quality and every aspect, element and detail is taken care of, to give the public a deep and relevant experience.
2- Inspiration:
I can tell you that the main source of inspiration in my life was, is, and will always be my father. His advice, wisdom, and closeness have helped me to make the best decisions and I can only thank life for having given me the honor of being the son of Alfredo Mele Espinal. My elders, and particularly my father, left me some values that are the most important in my existence, thanks to them I chose art as a profession and way of life, thanks to them I learned that you always have to improve and make the greatest effort so that the result is excellent. I was also inspired by Ernesto Rocio, someone I consider an unrecognized genius and ad-honorem father of what Indsign is today. I also met people like Arturo Belloso, who summed up his vision of work in one sentence: “if you don’t know it, you learn it”, meaning that there are no limits to being excellent, you just have to be willing to learn and apply that knowledge to generate a work of the highest level.
3- Constancy:
Constancy is essential, you have to dedicate yourself to what you do, with passion and desire to do. Successes and defeats will always be present. Many years of work and effort have been worth it. Keep learning, researching, and innovating.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
all the people who pass through your life, whether they are your parents, friends, or teachers, always contribute, but truly what you do is yourself. It is you who defines the path you want to follow.
