We were lucky to catch up with Alicia Sangster recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alicia , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As a kid growing up, I didn’t always have the best of the best.  I made up in my mind that I didn’t want my children growing up the way that I did. So that drove my work ethic.

It made me a hard worker, motivated, and a bit over zealous at times. But I’ve learned how not to over did it. I have learned to work smarter not harder.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a wife of almost 15 years to my husband Kuantele, a mother of 3 and an Esthetician. I specialize in giving facials and waxing ladies. I have been in the beauty/self-care field for about 2 years now. My business name is Lavish Things and I am located in downtown Pontiac, Michigan. What’s most exciting for me is when my clients get to the end of their service they are pleased with the conversation, knowledge, laughter, and sometimes prayer by the end of the time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that are most important to develop for business are being a hard worker, being timely and having great communication skills. Owning a business is not for the weak. You have to be willing to put in the work if you want to see the success and growth of your business. I am a timely person. Just like I want people to respect my time, I do my best to do the same for others. Building and nurturing communication is fundamental for any success in your business. Clients love knowing that you really care to know how they feel about a service or product that you have given or recommended.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a BREAK!! Sometimes business is slow, creativity is low, so for me I change what I’m doing. Take a walk, grab some food, or listen to or watch something inspiring!
