Meet Allison Easterling

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Allison Easterling. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Allison below.

Allison, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I’m not sure anyone ever fully overcomes imposter syndrome. Even after 13 years of doing this, there are still times I have to remind myself that this is real, the business will continue to thrive year after year, and people will keep booking. There are so many times I catch myself thinking “if I get to do all of this again next year”, and then I realize wait, I have gotten to do this year after year for so many years now and will continue to get to do it for years to come. And I think part of overcoming imposter syndrome is looking at things from a logistical standpoint sometimes…. Things have worked, are working, and will continue to work. Consistency is always key.

You just really have to own it, whatever “it” is for you, and go for it. Know that you’ll make mistakes, you’ll fail, but you’ll learn all the more from that and continue to grow and move forward.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a wedding photographer based in Colorado. My goal is to celebrate each couple on their happiest day by curating a collection of images that are natural, timeless and elegant… images that can be looked back on for years to come.

The thing I love most about my career are the relationships with my clients. I obviously love the images, and the art of it all, but at the center of all of that is connecting with clients, and then capturing their connection with each other, their families, and their friends.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think consistency, determination, and knowing who my dream clients were, were all very important in my journey. I never really homed in on my dream clients until the last several years, and that has honestly impacted my business drastically in the last few years.

But I have always said that consistency is key. Stay consistent with people, clients, your work, delivering things when you say you will, being places when you say you will be, etc. These seemingly little things are actually very big things, and foundation of everything I’ve built my business off of. So that even when things didn’t feel like they were progressing at times, consistently showing up even when it’s hard, will make all the difference.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I think I’ve gleaned a lot of wisdom from other vendors in the industry over the years. I am SO deeply thankful for all of them, There are so many that have championed my business throughout these years, and I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without them. They have offered advice, encouragement, and wisdom over and over again and I’m so grateful for all of them.
