We recently connected with Allison Tibbs and have shared our conversation below.
Allison, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care has been an essential part of my personal and professional journey. As a busy entrepreneur and coach, it can be easy to neglect my well-being in favor of serving others. However, I’ve learned that to be effective in my work and show up as my best self for my clients, I need to prioritize my self-care.
In 2021, I ended up in the hospital for 4 days due to pushing myself to my limits, neglecting my boundaries, and people-pleasing behaviors. It was the wake-up call I needed and it was the beginning of my starting my company – Nourished Life Coaching & Consulting. I realized how often high-achieving people and those with jam-packed schedules neglect their physical and mental health because they simply don’t make time for themselves.
I’ve discovered that many people struggle with the concept of ‘self-care’ because it can seem elusive or feel like another chore on their never-ending to-do list. I had to redefine what self-care meant to me and find ways to incorporate it into my busy schedule.
For me, self-care means “the intentional practice of tending to your needs. So, self-care takes many forms. I make time for physical activity, whether it’s going for a walk outdoors in between work calls, strength training in the mornings before I start my day, or doing yoga to relieve tension. I also prioritize sleep and make an effort to maintain a consistent sleep schedule, even when my to-do list is lengthy. Additionally, I’ve found that journaling and practicing gratitude have been incredibly beneficial for my mental health and overall perspective. By broadening my definition of self-care and finding ways to fit it into my daily life, I’ve been able to prioritize my well-being without sacrificing my other responsibilities.
The impact of these self-care practices on my effectiveness has been profound. When I take care of myself, I’m better able to manage stress, think creatively, and approach my work with a positive and energized mindset. I’ve also found that modeling self-care for my clients has been impactful, as it demonstrates that prioritizing one’s well-being is not selfish, but rather a necessary component of living a balanced and fulfilling life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At Nourished Life Coaching & Consulting, I work with high-achieving individuals who often struggle to prioritize their well-being amidst demanding schedules and responsibilities. I guide them in redefining self-care and integrating sustainable practices into their lives. What excites me most about this work is witnessing the transformative power of prioritizing one’s own needs. Seeing my clients experience increased energy, clarity, and joy as they cultivate self-care is truly rewarding.
My brand is built on the belief that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. It’s not just about indulging in spa days or taking extravagant vacations; it’s about creating a lifestyle that nurtures and sustains you daily. I’m passionate about debunking the myths and misconceptions around self-care and empowering people to take charge of their well-being.
What I am excited about lately is creating a community for busy professionals and high achievers, who are struggling with consistency and accountability with their self-care practices. This year, I launched NOURISHED – a community designed specifically for busy professionals and high achievers who are looking to prioritize their well-being without sacrificing their professional goals.
Through group coaching sessions, educational resources, and a supportive network of like-minded individuals, NOURISHED provides a platform for sharing experiences, strategies, and encouragement. By fostering a sense of community and accountability, NOURISHED empowers its members to integrate self-care into their daily lives and experience the positive ripple effects on their personal and professional lives. We believe that true success is rooted in well-being, and NOURISHED is dedicated to helping our members cultivate both. I am currently wrapping up the January cohort and opening up doors for the next cohort kicks off in April.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, I believe the three most impactful qualities or skills that have contributed to my success are adaptability, self-awareness, and communication.
Adaptability has been crucial in navigating the ever-changing landscape of entrepreneurship and coaching. Embracing change and being open to new approaches has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. To develop adaptability, I encourage others to step outside their comfort zone, try new things, and be willing to pivot when needed.
Self-awareness has been invaluable in understanding my strengths and weaknesses, and knowing when to seek help or delegate tasks. To cultivate self-awareness, I recommend practicing mindfulness, journaling, and regularly reflecting on your experiences.
Effective communication has been essential in building relationships with clients, colleagues, and partners. Clear and empathetic communication helps to foster trust and understanding. To improve your communication skills, actively listen, ask open-ended questions, and practice expressing yourself clearly and authentically.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is a high-achieving professional who is dedicated to their work but struggling to maintain balance and prioritize their well-being. They often come to me feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and neglecting their mental and physical health.
Through my coaching, I help clients by first identifying the beliefs and mindsets that are creating blocks to self-care. We then work together to redefine their priorities, create more space in their day, and establish boundaries to protect their time. As a result, my clients typically experience increased energy, better sleep, healthier choices, and improved productivity and efficiency at work.
Ultimately, I’m looking for clients who are ready to invest in themselves and their well-being, understanding that by prioritizing self-care, they will not only improve their personal lives but also enhance their professional performance and overall success.
