We were lucky to catch up with Alondra Molina recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alondra, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my background/childhood and never giving up. I am first generation Mexican American. my parents came to the United States with the American dream to give me everything they never had. I will never forget one of my first aha moments. Which was my dad being so proud of me when I bought my first car at 16 with my first job at Metro Center mall. A tiny part of me of corse wanted to be a sweet sixteen from mtv spoiled brat pulling up in a range. I was blessed to have new clothes on the first day of school. I knew how hard both of my parents had worked for their family of four, and how lucky I was to have two parents that loved me. Like many they started from the bottom and never gave up. My parents instilled strength and resilience in me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a licensed Lash Artist that specializes in luxury lash extensions. The most exciting part of my job is making people feel good. When they open their eyes and look in the mirror we both light up. I offer hybrid; volume, and mega volume lashes. My approach on lash extensions is to enhance guests beautiful facial features. No two set of lash extensions are the same because no two natural lash lines are the same. I go based on what’s doable with existing natural lash line (healthy lashes always being top priority), their eye/face shape, and desired look. Abeautyrecipe will be launching a online course soon!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience; authenticity, and resourcefulness have been the three qualities/skills that have impacted me the most on my journey. I would tell those in their early journey phase it’s not as easy as it looks, the beginning is always the toughest part especially when taking leaps. The sooner you get out their the easier it gets. There will always be a 9-5 waiting for you, but there is only one of you! Being authentic is hard because we always fall into imposter syndrome and try to be the person we have created a image of in our mind. Creating a business on something you don’t feel is authentic to you can be a tough sale. The sooner you are authentic the sooner you attract your tribe. Utilizing ALL resources around you is a game changer. You don’t need the nicest camera/phone to make content/show your work. Word of mouth is a old and faithful way to get your name/business out there.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed I reduce screen time; create a healthier routine, move my body, make to do lists, and communicate.
Being intentional is so important, if you are scrolling to scroll turn it off. Why would it feel good if there’s no purpose? Make time for things that feel good; going on walks, lunch breaks, dates with friends. While also making sure to prioritize things that you don’t want to do but are necessary to reduce overwhelming feelings.
Not moving for long periods of time is not healthy or good for you at all. Yoga helps me move my body; focus on my breath, and setting intentions.
If I have business things I am not looking forward to I pair it with something I enjoy like coffee. To reward myself for sticking to it/crossing things I like with things I have to do off my list. Mixing business with pleasure as they say.
Communication is also so important, talking through these emotions to reduce them. Whether it be with your partner/mentor/friend.
