We were lucky to catch up with Altravise Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Altravise with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
In terms of work ethics, it came naturally to me. I’ve always witnessed my Mother & my paternal Grandfather work while being gainfully employed.
My Mother is my role model 100%. She started in her career field when I was 9 months year old back in 1994! For the past 28+ years I’ve seen her progress within her career field on so many higher levels. Obtaining multiple Degrees, Career titles, Awards and Recognition in the Legal Field. I’m so proud to call her my MOTHER. She’s a phenomenal woman, intelligent, funny, sophisticated, loving, motivating, powerful, successful and a real BOSS! No matter the time or day my mom will always answer the phone for her children, guide us, nurture us and give us whatever we need to be successful in life. Thank you, Mom, because you’ve instilled countless attributes in my brother & I. Your unconditional love, patience & tough parenting made us into successful upstanding, responsible young human beings that we are today. Mom, your daily mantra of never getting tired of doing the right thing will carry my brother & I through our lifetime.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
TaylorMade Aesthetics is exciting OVERALL. Here at TMA, I’m the boss, employee, educator, assistant, content creator, and the list go on. What’s so special about all of those things? I’m able to learn and obtain valuable knowledge daily within my field through research & networking. This service is something I really want to master and be more in depth with because it’s so much to learn. Whether I’m waxing, shaping or offering permanent makeup services I’m aiming to educate myself daily. I must say throughout my journey thus far with any service I offer I’ve challenged myself to the fullest out of my comfort zone. earning time management wasn’t really challenging until my clientele started to increase. It can be overwhelming sometimes due to being an over thinker and a perfectionist. I’m really hard on myself & prefer everything close to being perfect even though nothing is perfect.
I take pride in what I do I’ve put so much of love, passion and dedication behind my business. Nothing makes me happier than interacting with my clients on a daily basis. Along with making them feel more beautiful & handsome than what they already are! My #1 Goal when creating masterpieces is to focus on my what desired look my clients want to achieve no matter the service.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
So far upon my journey I’ve obtained various qualities, skills and impactful knowledge within Esthetics. My personal qualities when interacting with my clients is patience, active listening and having a positive attitude/ behavior at all times. My top three esthetic skills are Communication, Fine Motor Skills+ Discipline. A few more esthetic traits that I have are integrity, networking, time management, problem solving skills, public speaking and adaptability. These skill sets helped me gain confidence, passion, courage, continuous growth, and outstanding career opportunities while building relationships with clients. Always remember that EVERY client you service is different including the desire looks they want to achieve. It’s our job to go above and beyond of every client we service as Estheticians.
My advice as a Licensed Esthetician I’ve learned that you have to develop a strong, firm and ambitious business mindset in order to achieve in this industry. Staying focus is highly important when the world is full of distractions. It’s important to leave room for growth and improvement in any field no matter how challenging it may seem. Over the years I’ve invested time and finances aside for seminars, trainings, goal planning, business evaluations, technique improvement practices and exploring skills in the workplace. I cannot stress enough about the importance of educating yourself without knowledge nothing is possible! My main goal is to educate my clients about the importance skincare and maintaining a healthy lifestyle while offering an array of beautification services. As I grow while learning within the beauty & skin care industry, I will always strive to educate myself.
My advice to Newly Licensed Estheticians would be to NEVER GIVE UP. You shouldn’t focus on how another individual accelerates within their career. Always focus on yourself no matter how high or low your business may take you. In this delicate journey we call life everyone’s path as well as their foundation has already been paved. No one ever said that times will be difficult when you’re attempting to reach a certain goal but in the end perseverance reigns true. You have to learn about Business hierarchy, Legal State Rules/ Regulations, Customer service, budgeting, generating revenue from clientele, supply & demand. Again, always educate yourself and research your state laws to stay aware of any new rules, requirements and regulations. In regard to various education courses, there are a plethora of training courses that are sometimes free or paid training. These trainings will take you a long way no matter your scope you have to INVEST, INVEST, INVEST in yourself and business. To be successful within your business it really takes time being a full-time entrepreneur. I’ve developed many skills, qualities and networking opportunities behind my business.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My biggest area of growth within the past 12 months were customer service, social interactions and business growth. Every month I’ve learned something new about myself, business & clientele. I’ve always learned that customer service is #1 within a business. Always going above and beyond for your business because it’s a representation of you which is highly important. This year thus far I’ve focused on slightly increasing service sales, expanding into new beauty markets and developing new retail products. I’ve been handmaking Skincare Prodcuts for a little over three years now and I haven’t released them to the public yet for many reasons. Some reasons have been worth the wait, and I cannot wait to release them to the world. The visions I have set for my retail products is a life changer and I hope to positively inspire, educate and correct all skin conditions that my products treat. Alot of time goes into making handmade skincare products it’s not all about adding a few oils and sugar to a recipe. The process I’ve endured of making better business decisions and opportunities really uplifted my business. I’ve been working extremely hard over the last few years learning about the importance of business and the legal requirements needed to sale products with the usage of natural high-quality ingredients. While marketing and learning the basics of cosmetic chemistry it was important for me to obtain as much knowledge possible and seek professional assistance if needed. Sometimes you’ll need addition help whether it’s easy or challenging and that’s okay because we don’t know everything but, I’m willing to learn what’s need for ” TaylorMade Aesthetics”.
My biggest area of improvement for my business thus far has been marketing, social media content and saving $$$. I do everything for my brand such as photography, content creation, reels, public relations, YouTube videos, monthly specials, flyers, website designs etc. While being enrolled in school back in 2020 investing & saving money was a highly discussed topic. While in my 20s I’ve been learning how to separate my personal finances from my business finances in order to progress within life. Every invest I’m making now and for the future will be able to reap the rewards tenfold. In order to make money you have to spend money responsibly.
