Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing to you Svexx, and the persona behind the alias, Dr. Amaan Kajani. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Amaan with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
You know, a lot of my drive and how I get things done comes from lessons of trial and error, and refining the process. It’s all about figuring out when to slot in time for the different things I want to work on. It’s not always about how long something’s going to take, but sometimes more about when’s the right time to tackle it. And once you start ticking things off your list, it feels awesome. It kind of becomes this cycle where you want to keep getting that feeling, so you get better at organizing your time and picking out the projects that really mean something to you.
A big part of this attitude comes from my parents. They’re both pretty resilient and they’ve got this optimistic streak that’s really rubbed off on me. It makes you want to keep pushing, no matter what. Then, it’s just about chasing after what you really want, and I’m always learning how to do that better.
So yeah, it’s a mix of learning, reflecting, and getting a kick out of finishing thing. Keeps me going after what I’m passionate about, and always trying to get better at it.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As someone who wears multiple hats—being a doctor by profession, a music producer under the alias Svexx, and a model that continues to explore the expressive canvas—I find that each role offers a unique avenue for expression and impact. In the realm of medicine, I consider it a profound privilege to contribute to the health and well-being of individuals, providing care and compassion at critical junctures of their lives. Engaging in this journey of healing and progress presents both a formidable challenge and a distinguished honor.
Modeling for me isn’t just about striking a pose; it’s an extension of my love for cinematography, a creative outlet that lets me tell stories without words. But at the heart of it all is emotion. I’m fascinated by the power of images and music to evoke feelings and connect people who might otherwise never cross paths. It’s like magic when communication transcends barriers, sparked by a shared experience of art. This interplay between visual and auditory experiences is where I find my greatest joy and inspiration. An image can ignite an idea for a melody, and a piece of music can frame the next photograph. They fuel each other, creating a cycle of creativity and expression.
Music production as Svexx is where my creative spirit truly soars. Through this outlet, I often channel my experiences, thoughts, and emotions into something tangible that others can experience. The process of turning a concept into a melody, then layering it into a full-blown production, is incredibly rewarding. It’s here that I feel most unrestricted, blending genres and experimenting with sounds to create something truly unique. Whether crafting a score for a film or documentary, or developing a track that stands out with its cinematic elements and emotive resonance, I am perpetually driven to expand my creative horizons.
What ties all these roles together is a core desire to impact, inspire, and innovate. Whether it’s through healing, creating visual art, or producing music that moves people, I aim to leave a lasting impression that motivates others to explore their own passions and capabilities.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about several upcoming projects. In the music sphere, Svexx is set to do more live performances, featuring collaborations that I believe will resonate widely. Even in the medical field, I have a keen interest in technology. It’s an area where I feel strong and excited about the potential to merge my creative endeavors with practical applications that can benefit individuals. My team and I just got back from a Hackathon and we’re excited about applications we’ve developed during this time. The integration of tech in my work is not just about innovation for its own sake; it’s about how these advancements can enhance our ability to communicate, to heal, and to experience the world around us. My aim is to weave this technological prowess into my artistic and professional projects, ensuring that the benefits reach as wide an audience as possible, touching lives in meaningful ways.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience, an unwavering dedication to chasing my passions irrespective of external judgments, and a capacity for self-reflection. The latter being perhaps the most important. True growth comes from distinguishing between noise and genuine feedback. It’s not merely about surrounding yourself with voices that constantly tell you how amazing you are. The real value lies in engaging with those who offer honest, direct feedback—highlighting both your strengths and areas for improvement. This approach is crucial because it grounds you in reality, helping identify what’s working and what isn’t, thereby guiding you towards effectively achieving your goals.
For those at the beginning of their journey, understanding this balance is vital. Embrace feedback that pushes you towards improvement, even if it’s not always what you want to hear. Seek out mentors and peers who are not afraid to be truthful with you, as their genuine insights can be instrumental in your growth. Simultaneously, learn to filter out criticism that doesn’t serve your growth or align with your values. Integrating this mindset into your daily life can also involve expanding your network to include individuals who share your commitment to authenticity and excellence, as well as refining your time management skills to prioritize personal and professional development.
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
Ah, that’s a real head-scratcher. It all boils down to the strengths you possess at any given moment and what you’re aiming to achieve. Your strengths can shift dramatically with each new task or project, so it’s crucial to stay adaptable and continuously work on different areas of your life. However, drawing on your strengths is incredibly beneficial because they form a solid foundation of confidence.
This brings to mind the time I dived into a few music contests, crafting one piece with intricate complexity because it mirrored my vision perfectly. I leaned on my strengths but also ventured into new territories, picking up skills along the way. This journey of exploration and improvement led me to win a subseqeunt contest from Germany. Had I relied on only my strengths, I’d never have had the chance to develop the skills that led me to that victory.
Mick Gordon’s talk at GDC about his process for creating the sound for the 2016 “Doom” video game really resonated with me. His mantra, “Change the process, change the outcome,” has stuck with me ever since. It’s something I highly recommend to anyone dealing with challenging projects in their lives. It’s a powerful reminder of how altering your approach can lead to breakthroughs you never thought possible.
