Meet Amber and Jocelyne

We recently connected with Amber and Jocelyne and have shared our conversation below.

Amber and Jocelyne, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
By showing up everyday telling ourselves we are going to be better today than what we were yesterday. Overtime, your confidence naturally grows as you work towards bettering your skills. Giving up was never an option. Mindset is everything. If you tell yourself that you are going to be better then you will be. Training your mind to think more highly of yourself instead of speaking negatively will help shift your mindset more positively.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
FadeAway Barber Studio is an upscale Barber studio located in the heart of Katy, TX. We specialize in men’s grooming services such as Fades, Beard Trims, Hot Towel Face Shaves, Nose Waxing, and Facials.

Both Jocelyne and Amber have been in the service industry for over 8 years now growing their small business after taking the risk of going on their own.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Taking the knowledge that we learned from both managing Barbershop’s helped us determine what we want for our business. Consistently showing up for our clients, and being a good listener to our clients wants and needs when it comes to their hair. Having the skills to be able to perform a service all while giving good customer service at the same time is what makes a good Barber.

Our advice to anyone early on in their journey, or wanting to start their own business is to definitely have a plan. Write out your plan, and see all of what it’s going to take to create your plan for business. Once you have your plan written out then focus on how you’re going to achieve your goals. Be realistic. Life is about taking risks, however you want to be smart about it. Stay consistent in your work. Market yourself, and show up everyday with the mindset of doing more and being better than what you were the day before.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Our ideal client is someone who is realistic when it comes to their hair goals. Someone who is loyal to our business, and frequently uses our services as well as refers us to their friends and colleagues. Someone that respects our craft, and values our time just as much as we value theirs.
