Meet Amber Jones

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Amber, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Believe it or not, my self care routine is awkwardly corny. It totally deters the norm of a spa day, reading daily motivational messages, or Journaling. It’s rather toxic if you ask me but it keeps me centered. The impact this has on me is, I get to engage in supporting another small business on a daily. Even if I’m the only customer in a 3 hour span of them opening, the conversations are always notable. It also helps me manage my time a lot better. Knowing that I have to finish my day to day errands all before 1pm, gives me the discipline to follow through.

On a day to day basis, its like clock work. At 1pm, I indulge in eating shaved ice from a local snow cone place close to my home. This is considered my lunch break. I purchase, nachos, and a flavored shaved ice, park my car and kick my feet up. I engage in uploading content, answering emails, reviewing orders, and watching paternity court, all before 2 pm. My lunch break is then over, and it’s time for me to get into the carpool line to pick up my kids from school.

Sounds a bit heavy on the stomach right? Maybe, it is. But hey, it calms my spirit from the rush of a busy morning. It’s like an everyday stop at Starbucks, I just need it in my life. I’m a SAHM, my mornings consist of rush hour, dropping kids off, and tending to everything else within a 5 hour span. My weekdays are pretty much planned out. Monday is my shopping day, Tuesday, I bake and prep cakes/icing,Wednesday, I run errands to cake supplies stores and ice cakes, Thursdays, I decorate cakes, and on Fridays, I coordinate picks ups.

Yes, I deserve my sugar rush dates. It’s known as my calm before the storm time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Amber Jones, the owner of Sweet Jones. I live in Birmingham, Al. I am a self taught baker, whom specializes in custom and luxury cakes. I also have a sister company that specializes in event planning and decor. My business has thrived for 4 plus years. Recently, I decorated the home of one of the most iconic comedians(Ricky Smiley). I also ended the year 2022 doing my first 10 tiered cake for a wedding of upcoming internet influencers. I am looking forward to so much more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Start, fail, but finish. If at first you don’t succeed, TRY AGAIN.
The wealthiest person, started out with nothing. If you are in a business that requires customer service, remember customers aren’t always right, but make it RIGHT!

I’ve failed, ive gone broke, I started over. Through it all, I kept going. You can too.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Finding quiet time has been my biggest improvement. 2022 was my quiet year. My first year of self employment. It was a year of observation. I did just that. Now it’s time to progress.
