Meet Amie & Jaida (Mother & Daughter) Burke

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amie & Jaida (Mother & Daughter) Burke. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Amie & Jaida (Mother & Daughter), we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Great question! Our generosity comes directly from our HEARTS. It’s looking at people from our Hearts – acknowledging and seeing their emotional, physical, mental and spiritual state of being and responding with LOVE. Creating and giving a person what they need when they need it – no questions or judgment. Feeling with our Hearts. When we feel with our Hearts we automatically and instinctively want to give what is needed to better their Heart situation. Our generosity comes from the natural state of being connected to our Hearts while viewing everyone equally.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
KIDS CARE is actually an acrostic poem which stands for (KIDS) Kindness In Doing Service (CARE) Connecting And Respecting Everyone.  The idea actually came from Jaida when she was just eight years old. We founded the service learning nonprofit in 2019 and are based in Marietta GA,  Our mission is to create youth community service experiences, encourage Kindness and raise awareness about our environment.

We welcome ALL AGES of volunteers to our once a month volunteer opportunities. Ages 3 – 18 years old is our primary focus. Though are volunteers can/have included entire families, individual adults with no kids, and retired people.  Breaking the mold on how old or young a person should be to volunteer is an important purpose of KIDS CARE. Mixing all aged volunteers together makes for great group experiences on many levels.

Some recent examples of our service experiences include: making 301 sandwiches for those facing food insecurity, coloring sidewalks at assisted living facilities, backpack & school supply drives for students needing assistance, litter pick ups, food pantry work days, and homemade Kindness Cards for first responders.

We are a service learning nonprofit because at our volunteer experiences we pause to discuss and connect to empathy, compassion, kindness, awareness of the needs of others and additional emotionally intelligent qualities. Additionally, KIDS CARE promotes environmental awareness with litter pick ups and learning sessions about our natural environment, consumerism, and waste management.

We like to share with our volunteers (and followers) how local nonprofits are supporting people in need and what exactly those needs are. Learning about how and who is taking care of those in need on a bigger scale is very important information. Connecting to your Heart while becoming aware of how and why a community supports one another’s needs is a foundation to continued compassionate generosity. We hope experiencing this with KIDS CARE will lead to a lifetime of Kind & Compassionate service and giving.  Promoting and supporting local nonprofits has become a natural and recurring benefit of KIDS CARE.

Ultimately, KIDS CARE inspires youth, families, individuals and local businesses to consistently Create Kindness for others. We love connecting local volunteers with the local community for the mutual benefit of all.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Compassion, Courage and Action. The difference between empathy and Compassion is action. When you take action on your empathy for others that is when you express Compassion. Without the action you are feeling empathy. Which does not affect anyone. For us – we have had the courage to take action on our empathic feelings which leads to us fulfilling our Heart’s Compassion which benefits both us and others.

It’s not always easy to take the action you’re thinking of. Having courage to go for it, to believe in your Heart’s desires, ideas and actions can leave you feeling very vulnerable. Fear of being judged, ridiculed for being too nice or too kind, or wasting your time has to be let go of. Courage must take precedence over fear or judgment or rejection.

Compassion lives in our Hearts. It is not always easy and sometimes we still have to have the courage, creativity and the self motivation to take action on those feelings. Which is exactly what we have done as a nonprofit for the past four years.

Our advice to others is to connect to your Heart, have the courage and take the actions. You and the people around you will greatly benefit from your Heart’s expressions which will make our world more beautiful.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Oh great question, first of all we would love to build long lasting connections with local business owners, individuals and/or sponsors who could help support our nonprofit, our volunteers and ultimately our local community.  Our volunteer numbers are growing and we could definitely use the support!

Some examples of gaps we are looking to fill include generosity donated to us in the form of purchasing a few pizza’s for our volunteers, helping cover the cost of volunteer t-shirts, donating in-kind goods to our charity drives and/or gifting us an occasional space to host youth meetings or store goods in transient of being donated. The nature of our nonprofit is very fluid, meaning our service missions vary from month to month. Oftentimes we have random needs to fill and would love to have some consistent and reliable help from strong community members.

It is important for us to connect with community members who are Heart led and Compassionate as they would become a true friend to KIDS CARE and ultimately role models to our youth and volunteer base.
