Meet Amy Goldberg

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amy Goldberg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amy below.

Hi Amy, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated with people and their behaviors. How they communicate. How they act. What they do in life. How they play. I find myself questioning whether they are happy. Although I know happiness is illusive, I wonder what brings people joy. In observing this, I then started questioning what it was exactly that was going to bring me joy.

I wondered whether the word ‘purpose,’ which has been bantered around what seems like forever, was what was blocking us from finding, well, in fact, our purpose?! So, I realized in my own search that it wasn’t about finding my purpose, as that seemed to cause me great anxiety, it was asking myself, what excited me? What got me leaping out of bed each morning. Now THAT’S what I was searching for.

My steps forward were discovering what I enjoyed. It was all the things I found myself doing without looking at the clock. It was what kept my interest. They weren’t BIG acts where I saw fireworks, or HUGE eureka moments. I started observing what I spent my time doing where I was digging what I was doing. I also quickly found out what I didn’t like doing – which was very helpful in eliminating all the things (or most) that didn’t bring me joy.

It is a kind of process of elimination in discovering what it was that jived me. Slowly, overtime, as I tried a bunch of things – because it’s all about taking action, I discovered what it was that I was both good at, and that I enjoyed.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Being a creative producer, writer, and entrepreneur, I’ve found that often times I needed to push back in order to push forward. There had been so many barriers and roadblocks in my life that I needed to figure out how to navigate things. Interestingly, it was these very challenges where I discovered more clarity, strength, and resiliency. I figured out what trails to blaze, and paths to avoid. In that, I created a company called Push Back Productions. It seemed obvious to me that after years of creating, learning, falling, failing, and growing that I’d absorb all of what I had learned (and am learning) and roll it into one creative entity.

Push Back was created to create! We create things to inspire people. To creatively-inspire, energetically charge, and dynamically stimulate the imagination so that it expands beyond what was previously thought possible. I know that’s a mouthful, and yet it’s how I think and feel.

With a ton of trusted experience, we, the team, are creative catalysts. We have abilities and skills to think differently. We remove obstacles getting in the way of thriving. And it’s a lot of fun.

We bring creative endeavours to life – we work as producers, strategists, writers, connectors, business development experts, connecting people and businesses to what matters most.

What I’ve found when working with clients, is that it must start with an open mind. It’s a conversation around; “What if or imagine this.” We work with the entertainment industry, start-ups, private businesses, writers, podcasters, entrepreneurial endeavours, new initiatives, refreshers, non-profits, creative products, and services, where together we create, and/or enhance anything.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

  1. Listen. Really listen. You already know what you know. By going into any conversation with a completely open mind with the intent that you are ‘seeking to explore’ will have you discovering more than you ever thought possible. People want and need to be heard. Give them the opportunity to use their voice and watch what transpires.
  2. Trust. Building lasting trust and positive relationships is everything. Without it, you are looking just past your nose. To this day I still see people connecting with others and going right into their sales pitch without discovering anything about the person they are trying to connect with. In fact, they don’t even mention the person’s name when corresponding via text. Relationships and building trust takes time. And no matter what others may tell you, time is what you need to build these lasting and trusted connections.
  1. Compassion and kindness. These words on their own without action mean nothing. There is an enormous difference between saying that you are a compassionate and kind person and actually demonstrating in your day-to-day life that you are. Practice, yes practice being kind and compassionate – which means pausing. In a world where we rush around and are thinking 10 steps ahead, kindness and compassion need slowness. Because you need to pause to identify someone else’s needs. A simple example – as you’re opening a door, look behind you to see if you can hold the door for another. When walking past people, look them in the eye and smile. Simple, yes? Powerful, absolutely. So do more of that.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Life can be a whole lot more fun when you can collaborate. We are always looking for partners to collaborate with. Just recently we launched an ‘Intentionally You’ series creating space where curiosity, thinking differently, creativity, self-discovery, soulfulness, connection, and an open expression of self can thrive.

For example, we invite authors (new and established) to post their books in our Intentional Reading section. We have regular contributors sharing content and services within our Intentionally Empowered section. We work with new podcasters and help create and promote their new initiatives.

We work with, and partner with entrepreneurs to explore other ways we can work together – tapping into resources, skills, knowledge, various content, and experiences.
