Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ana Royal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ana, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I come from a family of educators. My late Aunt, Flora Parker, who was a teacher in the 90s, inspired me to become a teacher at the age of 8. I graduated from Morgan State University with a B.A. in Elementary Education. For the past 17 years, I’ve worked as a teacher in the Baltimore City Public School System. Teaching has always been a passion and a way for me to be a part of making sure that the youth are equipped to become successful in the future.
Out of my passion for teaching, birthed my passion to make learning easier for students. I noticed that a lot of schools consisted of overcrowded classrooms and students had a great need for individualized instruction in order to reach their true potential and achieve their learning goals.
In 2017, I started Royal Achievement Tutoring, LLC to build upon students’ foundational skills and assist advanced learners to achieve their fullest potential. Since starting in 2017, we’ve helped scholars gain skills and a confidence that will aid them in the years to come. This is only the beginning for Royal Achievement Tutoring and for me, as I’m looking forward to continuing to help young scholars soar beyond their wildest dreams.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Royal Achievement Tutoring, LLC. was officially born in 2017. Prior to conception, I worked tirelessly to ensure that anything my students stood in need of was provided to them. While spending my afternoons tutoring students in my own classes, I realized that if my students could benefit from this additional support, other students could as well. What began as a small tutoring service with 2 clients in 2017, now provides over 35 students with personalized interventions to ensure they are successful in their educational endeavors. In school year 2022- 2023, 85% of Royal Achievement scholars were achieving on or above grade level scores in all subjects. Royal Achievement not only provides students with educational supports, but also ensures these students are provided with social-emotional supports. Our tutors are truly invested in providing their students with a well-rounded, high quality, personalized, equitable education. Royal Achievement is more than a tutoring service, we are a family. We also offer quarterly events and field trips to ensure student learning goes beyond the classroom. Our scholars are able to come together as a family to engage in fun learning activities.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
We pride ourselves on three very important principles: compassion, integrity, and teamwork. Compassion encompasses the ability to understand the students struggles and to use that to create intentional solutions. Compassion ensures that these students know that they are cared for and supported. Integrity ensures that we are giving our honest effort to provide students and families with supports to be successful. This includes adhering to morals and values. Finally, teamwork is a necessity. Teamwork is a staple in the Royal Achievement family. Not only do we collaborate to discuss resources and supports for the students, but we also collaborate with lead teachers and families to ensure we are all on the same page. It truly takes a village, and Royal Achievement lives by this. With the culmination of these 3 principles, Royal Achievemnt is a force to be reckoned with. We’ll be around for years to come.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I accredit the loving support of my parents to be the most impactful. My parents also share their nurturing, loving and self-less gifts with the World as social workers, they know how important it is to provide children with not only an education, but with love and support. Throughout my life, my parents have always guided, supported, and encouraged me. Knowing that some children are not raised in such a way, I go above and beyond to share not only my teaching ability but the love and encouragement that my parents continuously gives me. I would not be here today without my parents. They are truly my backbone and I hope I’m making them proud!
