Meet Ana Saldana

We were lucky to catch up with Ana Saldana recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ana with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I can honestly say that my work ethic came from my parents. I watched my parents work everyday non stop sometimes even 7 days a week. My mother would work hard physical labor throughout her entire pregnancy. I am 1 of 5 siblings, I started my very first job at a shoe store when I was 16 and from that day forward I never stopped working. I am currently working my full-time state job and working on the weekends as a MUA and during the week after my full-time I come to the spa and do lash extensions. I sometimes don’t ever have a day off.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been a makeup artist for about 12 years on and off. It started when I went to cosmetology school in 2012, I really wanted to be a hairdresser and do hair but in the process of me learning I developed a love for makeup, I started doing my class mates makeup and playing with color. I was going to school full time and working full time all while raising my newborn daughter but of course I didn’t let that stop me from doing what I loved and with the help of my parents I was able to finish school in a year and started working beauty counter jobs for a few years and I got some experience and then started my journey with Sephora and I met some amazing artists and we became friends outside of work. 5 years in I decided to take a leap of faith and I left Sephora and started freelancing and taking on more clients. It was honestly the best decision I could have made. I was able to stay booked, I had a lot of referrals, then I had the amazing opportunity to travel and do makeup for some body builder competitors. I’m 2022 I started my very own cosmetic line Sapphire Cosmetics, I also wanted to artistry and decided to take a lash course and I began doing lash extensions in 2022 also.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I NEVER gave up! Even though there was times where I felt so defeated. I did not give up! I pushed even harder. I would say being a beginner lash tech was more challenging than anything else. I wanted to give up soooooo many times but I also knew I had a 11 year old daughter who was looking up to me so giving up was not an option. Also just listening to other artist and other lash techs talk about their struggle in the makeup and lash world and how they overcame it and never gave up really motivated me to keep pushing.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They never gave up up on each other. My parents have been married 42 years and they have been through so many obstacles in life but one thing they did it is overcome anything and everything that crossed their path. Giving up is not an option, quitting is not an option. I figure it out and keep it pushing. It was their strength and perseverance that has helped me be who I am today.
