Meet Anatoliy Aponchuk

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anatoliy Aponchuk. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Anatoliy, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I would say my work ethics come from my roots that started back in a small village in Ukraine. My father especially, he started working when he was 14 years old at a brick factory back and has been working ever since, watching him work hard all the time is something me and my brothers  inherited. Most of my father’s labor was compensated in Flower, salt, oil, sugal wheat ect. This was the only way for my father to provide for the family. Looking back in time , it’s a hard way to make a living but growing up and watching my father do it, it all seamed romal because everyone else did the same thing.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Anatoliy Aponchuk, I was born and Raised in a small village Borove in Ukraine. Our parents raised 10 children, 4 boys and 6 girls. We moved to this great country in 2003 and  we our living American dream to this day. All four brothers work together in construction business (AVA Roofing & Siding inc.)  Having a dream living in a village is a fairy tale, so no one really talked about goals and dreams. When i moved to US with my family, everything has changed for us and at first it was very hard. We didn’t know the culture, language and big city life. As years went by, we adapted these things and life got much easier. My two older bothers have joined a roofing crew and i helped out after school and during the summer break for some money. To say that i loved roofing would be a lie, but i knew that not many people wanted to do what i do and they are willing to pay for someone else to do it. I kept learning the trade and as the time went on, my brother Vitaliy and i decided to open up our own roofing company and we called it AVA Construction at first ( we wanted to do smaller projects/repairs) We did not plan to grow this business into a big size company. Things took a great turn for us.  Since we started AVAROOFING.COM , our goal was to offer customers honest service at a competitive price. Nothing has changed today, we are still family owned and operated. We now have 5 siblings, father, father in law, two brother in laws and some cousins working together. With over 50 employees combined, we offer commercial and residential services to all of WNY.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Our three qualities in our trade would be;

  1. We are always up to date on product training/certifications. Every year products change or update and it is important for AVAROOFING.COMto make sure we stay up to date with training and hands on experience.
  2. We always put our employees/sub contractors first. At AVAROOFING.COMwe pride ourselves with the employees that we have. In WNY we are one of very few companies that offer full benefits for our employees. We offer Health Care, 401k, paid time and bonuses. We believe that if we treat our employees to the best of our abilities,  they’ll repay it in great workmanship and attitude at work.
  3. We carry proper insurance for roofing/siding ( in our industry is is a common problem that many contractors get away with and end up hurting a customer if there is an accident on site )

If you are starting out and want to grow in a well reputable company in your neighborhood, always deliver what’s in the contract, make sure the owners understand what they are getting for their money. Never stop learning about the products you are installing.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I think the most impactful thing our parent could have done for us is to bring us to this great country. It’s not easy to leave everything behind and move to a completely different environment. The risk my parents took just so their children can have a chance at better life is something we are forever thankful.
