Meet Anavi Photography

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anavi Photography. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Anavi Photography, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My journey took a minute. Maybe all of ours do. However my journey was definitely the quickest path to finding my purpose. I am a fashion Photo Art Director/Photographer. So I don’t just take the picture, I set the whole look and feel. I create mood boards and come up with a strong concept. I often wardrobe style my own shoots or work closely with my stylist. Because I started an an Art Director I learned big picture and tiny detail management all at once. This makes my career exactly right for me, but it was not a straight line. When I look back however it all makes absolute sense.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a Photo Art Director/Photographer. This means that I come up with the whole concept for the Photoshoot and then execute it. Lately I’ve been working with international brands, but I really love to work with local Florida companies too. They ship me the clothes and then I come up with a theme. Say it’s sundresses… I might use Greece as inspiration and do lots of visual research. Ideally we could shoot in Greece, but even with a modest budget the styling, hair, makeup, models, backdrops and poses would all follow my theme and the audience will be swept away to the Greek Isles.

I truly love my job because it is both a creative and an intellectual pursuit and at the same time it can transport the viewer and make the client happy.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience is definitely the most important quality and skill for any creative. You have to remain yourself while being very flexible. I think if you want to keep going as a creative no matter how many times you are rejected or dismissed or you yourself have doubts…the more likely it is that you are in the right field. My best advice is to do something you would do for free but don’t do it for free.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to find a wardrobe stylist that would like to become a member of my team. Someone who takes direction well, and can bring a unique perspective. Someone with a big city outlook. The key is to have connections so that would be a pre-requisite. I love to style my shoots, but there is so much communication and collection and organization that I’d love to find a collaborator to share the experience with.
