Meet Andrea McGrath

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrea McGrath. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Andrea, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Discovering my purpose was an evolution rooted in the profound love I hold for my children. As a parent, I recognized the transformative power of passion, and with a heart devoted to making a positive impact, I embarked on a journey that culminated in founding a business and becoming an advocate for mental health. This endeavor was driven by the unwavering belief that if you have a passion, even amidst uphill battles, pursuing it is not only worthwhile but essential. The core of my purpose lies in advocating for mental health, a cause close to my heart as I strive to create a better world, particularly for my children. Witnessing my daughter’s struggle with mental illness ignited an even fiercer determination to be a catalyst for change. My purpose, therefore, is not just a personal mission but a commitment to shaping a brighter future, especially for the youth, fueled by the love and resilience within my own family.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Our story unfolds at the intersection of purpose and passion. I’m deeply invested in mental health advocacy, and through the candle business, I’ve found a powerful medium to shed light on an often overshadowed topic. What sets our brand apart is the fusion of artistry and advocacy – each handcrafted candle not only illuminates spaces but also sparks conversations about mental health. The most exciting aspect is our ongoing evolution. As we take the first steps into the non-profit realm, the vision expands. We’re in the nascent stages of establishing a non-profit dedicated to youth mental health. This new chapter adds another layer to our commitment to fostering awareness, resilience, and support for young minds navigating the complexities of mental well-being. Join us on this journey as we light up spaces, minds, and futures, one candle and one advocacy initiative at a time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my journey, three qualities that proved most impactful were resilience, empathy, and strategic vision. Resilience empowered me to navigate challenges, recognizing setbacks as opportunities for growth. Empathy fueled my connection with others, fostering a deeper understanding of their struggles and needs. Strategic vision enabled me to plan and execute initiatives effectively, aligning my goals with a broader purpose. For those in the early stages of their journey, my advice is to cultivate resilience by embracing setbacks as stepping stones, develop empathy through active listening and seeking diverse perspectives, and hone strategic vision by setting clear goals and continuously refining your path. Remember, each challenge is a chance to learn, each interaction an opportunity for connection, and each plan a step toward realizing your vision. Stay committed, stay compassionate, and stay focused on the journey ahead.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When the weight of the world feels too heavy, I turn to my trusty toolbox of coping strategies to navigate overwhelming moments. Among the various tools, walking and deep breathing provide a grounding foundation, but my ultimate go-to is candles. They are not just decorative items; they serve as a therapeutic sanctuary. The soothing scent and the gentle flicker of the flame work in tandem to calm my nervous system, allowing stress to dissipate. It’s a meditative experience that provides a profound sense of tranquility. With the stress melted away, I can calmly reassess my day and workload, gaining a fresh perspective and the clarity needed to move forward. My advice to others facing overwhelm is to curate your own toolbox of coping mechanisms, finding what works uniquely for you. Whether it’s a stroll outdoors, deep breaths, or a candlelit moment, having these tools at your disposal can make all the difference in navigating life’s challenges.
