Meet Andrew Robinson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrew Robinson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Andrew , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I would say movies or a good book. I love adventures movies and I love to read and research ancient history. If I’m in a position to where my creativeness isn’t blossoming, I’ll go watch an old favorite. Underworld Evolution is a go to movie for me. This movie never gets old to me. It opens my mind every single time I watch it. I’m infatuated with the hybrid Michael. He gives me the idea of being unique and the one that has something innately that everyone wants. Being unique is a modest mindset I carry. With this mindset I believe I can generate distinctive ideas that will allow me to stand out and sort of differentiate from other designers and creators around the world.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a Graphic Designer and upcoming Fashion Designer. I also paint on my free time. I love bringing my ideas to life through digital inventions or conducting them on a nice piece of canvas. I enjoy using all types of colors when it comes to creating digital mock-ups and the whole idea of the process makes me want to create concept after concept. Art is special to me and so many ways. A man or woman get to express their ideas, emotions, passions, all through art. Also a person’s dress code has value to one’s self because it’s a way to express yourself through style. Your clothes can sort of breathe this personality that people can actually feel before actually speaking to you. Although that’s just a part of who you are, this doesn’t mean if u don’t have style you’re a boring person, you may just have another way you express your personality.

I am now collaborating with Apex Premium Gear which is a sports brand in Houston, Texas. The owner reached out about a year ago and we have been coming up with a plan for our future brands, which will consist of three major brands. I will be the creator behind the logos and ideas for all three brands as the owner is giving me full range for his brand as well as is sons brand who is a 4 star athlete out of Pearland, Texas. My brand Xile is also apart of the agreement as the third brand. We are still working on direction for the last brand but there is no rush as we have to take things one step at a time. Playing with about a thousand ideas now, so organizing these ideas and making samples is the most important right now. Making sure the quality is comfortable for our buyers. Apex will be using my Baboon logo for a small fee as we push to gain more supporters around the nation. We have now put out warmups in three colors. Great quality and very pleasant on the skin.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say reading is the most important. Reading opens the mind in so many ways. It has to be a knowledgeable book though and not something silly like, “ how to make someone fall in love with you”, these kind of books are pointless considering nature the one controlling these passions. So, read something that strengthens your innate energy and not something that is pointless and out of your control.

Second, education is very important because you meet new people in college and learn new things. College helped me find myself and it could do so for anyone. I come from the Southern part of Houston where a lot of people drop out of high school and college isn’t even and option after graduation. There was a guy I looked up to and never got a chance to meet because he was murdered. This guy had a chance to leave the state to play college ball but he chose to stay home and jealousy took his life. He was a great athlete my VA family often compared me to him. If you have a chance to leave the city, state, country, for education or just to work on a new career path, do it!

Third, while these first two things are in play, make sure what you are doing career wise is your choice. Do not let a parent, friend or siblings pick your career. I’ve hidden my artistic talent for a long time because of sports. When I made the decision to focus more on my future in this Art world, definitely believe a lot of people were confused and thought I was just doing it because I was sad or for whatever weird reason they came up with. Ignore the negativity and do what your heart is telling you. You will find peace and chasing your dreams even if it means chasing them alone.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would Definitely say my Mother. She comforts me with her conversation and sometimes all I need is to just be around her in order to be motivated. I’m fortunate that my Mother wasn’t born in this country and her being Caribbean gives her a traditional mindset that not many Americans have these days. Her knowledge and common sense that she carry is unmatched. I can talk to my mother about almost anything. If there are parts I don’t want to express to her, my Stepdad or my big sister are another two people I can get guidance and wisdom from. Also I grew up with 5 older brothers in my house hold. Tough love from these guys is also another big motivational boost to go do what I’m am supposed to do.
