We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ANEIIA STEELE a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ANEIIA , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I have been a survivor my entire life. I have been on my own since I was 14 years old and was homeless in my freshman and sophomore year of high school. I slept under bridges and would steal clothing from laundromats just to have what I needed. I went to school every day, graduated on time and knew that I was the key to changing my situation and I had to keep pushing. My resilience comes from my traumatic childhood. There were times in my life where I had absolutely nothing both financially and I was spiritually empty. I am resilient because I have 3 little people depending on me to make things happen. I want my children to know that they can do anything they can dream if they believe in God and put in the work. They are my strength and the reason why I continue to overcome all obstacles. I never want to be in a position where I cannot take care of them and go without ever again.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the CEO and founder of Royalty Tax Services. I am an accountant, Amazon best-selling author, business coach, public speaker, philanthropist, and virtual CFO. I have been in the field of accounting for 20 years and I have been doing taxes for 7 years. Accounting is my true happy place. I am so passionate about what I do and being able to help my community at the same time. My mission is to educate, empower, and uplift everyone I encounter. I take pride in educating others on tax planning, tax strategies, and how to make better financial decisions for themselves and their families. My field is exciting for me because I know that I am helping my community. My clients always leave with more knowledge than what they came in with. I also partner with other tax professionals and help them start their own tax business. I want everyone to win so I ‘ve created a platform where I train, educate, and mentor others on starting and operating their own tax business. I also own a software company where I provide professional tax software to those in the tax industry who need professional software and bank products. I am so excited as I have another book being released the early part of this year called Breaking Chains-Building Resilience, Life Beyond Childhood Trauma. It is an autobiography/self-help book to help others overcome their own trauma so they can walk in their purpose. I know my story will help someone heal and operate in their highest power.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Wow that’s a good question. There are so many. Qualities that were most impactful on my journey were perseverance, ambition, confidence, faith, and being resourceful. My skills grew over time because I was resourceful. I tell people all the time, I am really a nerd on the inside. I read tax bills, the IRS manual, IRS codes, take continuing education throughout the year etc. Just so that I know what areas I can apply the knowledge to help each individual clients situation. My perseverance was the drive I needed to always keep going no matter what. I never gave up. Now there were times, I felt defeated, maybe even wounded. But I never broke. I always got up again, believed in myself, kept the faith, and trusted the process. I left corporate America in 2018 to run my business full-time because that’s how much I believed in myself and my vision. My advice for someone who is early in their journey is to never give up. Drown out the noise. There will be people who can’t see your vision and that’s ok. They are not supposed to because when you are called, it’s not a conference call-it was only meant for you to see.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The people who were the most helpful to me overcoming my challenges and building essential skills are in heaven. My grandmother and great grandmother helped guide me growing up. They molded and shaped me into the person I am today. They taught me that if I don’t have anything else I have my education and that was something no one could take away from me. They taught me to be strong and resilient. They taught me to always be aware so that I can see what’s coming. They taught me to be kind. Most importantly they always taught me to walk with my head held high and if you can’t stand behind it don’t do it. Be your authentic self and know that I come from Royalty-hence the company name. Their strength and their grace shaped me into the woman I am today and I know they would be very proud of how far I’ve come keeping my integrity intact.
