Meet Angel Mock

We recently connected with Angel Mock and have shared our conversation below.

Angel, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding your purpose for some seems easy…but for me it was a journey. I always knew that I loved to help people but I wasn’t sure how. It wasn’t until I was well into my career that I was speaking to a crowd of mostly women and sharing my story. I looked out into the audience and saw what appeared to be a broken woman who had tears streaming down her face. We locked eyes and I spoke directly to her. As she shook her head and smiled wiping away tears, I knew I had found my purpose. I am meant to show women that no matter their story they can achieve anything. The only one limiting them is themselves and with the proper guidance and tools can change the trajectory of their life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Two decades ago, I embarked on a transformative journey of personal development and self-improvement. At that time, I was a young, introverted woman struggling to define my life’s purpose. Though I had a deep-seated desire to help others, I was unsure about the specific path I should follow.

I recognized the wisdom in the airplane safety metaphor: ‘Put your oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others.’ In other words, I understood that I needed to work on myself before I could effectively assist anyone else. This revelation became my guiding principle as I began the process of saving myself from a path marked by isolation, self-doubt, and a self-destructive belief system.

Over the years, I dedicated myself to personal growth, both independently and alongside others. This commitment led me to a place where I could unmistakably observe the stark contrast between the life I once lived and the person I had become.

With the knowledge and experience I’ve gathered along this journey, I now focus on teaching others how to transform their lives. I help them identify their ‘Why’ and equip themselves for the pursuit of their true callings. My mission is to empower individuals to break free from self-imposed limitations and actively chase their dreams with unwavering determination.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Finding your purpose is a deeply personal and often evolving journey, and it can be influenced by a wide range of qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge. While there is no one-size-fits-all answer, for me the following three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge can be impactful in helping you discover your purpose:

Self-awareness: Understanding yourself, your values, beliefs, strengths, weaknesses, and passions is essential for finding your purpose. Self-awareness allows you to identify what truly matters to you and what brings you fulfillment. Reflect on your life experiences, seek feedback from trusted individuals, and engage in activities like journaling or meditation/prayer to deepen your self-awareness.

Empathy and interpersonal skills: Building meaningful connections with others, understanding their perspectives, and showing empathy can lead you to purpose-driven endeavors. Connecting with people and communities in need can help you uncover a sense of purpose that revolves around helping, serving, or making a positive impact on others’ lives. Developing strong interpersonal skills can also facilitate collaboration and teamwork, which is often crucial in purpose-driven work.

Exploration and learning: Being open to new experiences, learning, and personal growth is crucial in the journey to finding your purpose. Explore different fields, industries, hobbies, and volunteer opportunities to gain exposure to a variety of experiences. This can help you discover what resonates with you and what you’re passionate about. Continuous learning is also essential as it allows you to adapt to changing circumstances and refine your purpose over time.
Keep in mind that finding your purpose is not a one-time event but a continuous process. Your purpose can evolve as you gain new insights and experiences. These qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge can serve as a foundation for self-discovery, helping you navigate the journey of purpose finding more effectively.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

As a purpose coach, I face several challenges, including:

Navigating Diverse Journeys: I recognize that each person’s path to discovering their purpose is unique, requiring me to adapt my methods accordingly.
Addressing Resistance to Change: Some clients may experience resistance and deep-seated fears that I must help them overcome during our coaching journey.
Identifying the Right Clients: Finding clients genuinely committed to purpose discovery can be challenging, and I’ve developed a screening process to ensure we work effectively together.
Balancing Objectivity and Subjectivity: It’s crucial for me to strike a balance between offering guidance and allowing clients to explore their feelings and desires without imposing my own beliefs.
Upholding Ethical Standards: I prioritize ethical considerations, maintaining professionalism, and respecting client confidentiality throughout our coaching relationship.
Managing Expectations: I help clients understand that discovering their purpose is often a gradual and evolving process, and setbacks and uncertainty are natural aspects of this journey.
Staying Informed: I continuously update my knowledge to remain informed about the latest research and techniques in purpose discovery.
Despite these challenges, my role as a purpose coach is highly rewarding, as I guide individuals toward more fulfilling and purposeful lives.
