Meet Angeline J. Pedrosa

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angeline J. Pedrosa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Angeline J., so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
As a makeup artist with over 10 years of experience, overcoming imposter syndrome was a journey of self-discovery and constant growth. At the beginning of my career, doubts crept in, questioning my abilities and qualifications in this competitive industry. However, I learned to paint a new picture for myself by focusing on certain aspects that helped me develop the necessary skills and overcome those challenges.

First and foremost, I dedicated myself to honing my craft. I attended numerous workshops, seminars, and training sessions to refine my techniques and stay updated with the latest trends. This commitment allowed me to build a strong foundation of knowledge and expertise, giving me the confidence to take on diverse makeup projects.

Additionally, I actively sought out opportunities to work with various clients, models, and photographers. Embracing these experiences helped me overcome my fear of judgment and allowed me to gain practical experience in different settings. Each project brought unique challenges, allowing me to learn from my mistakes and further develop my skills.

To foster an essential quality, I cultivated a positive mindset and self-belief. I reminded myself that everyone starts somewhere and that I had already achieved significant milestones in my career. I surrounded myself with a supportive network of fellow makeup artists and mentors who encouraged and uplifted me during times of doubt. Their guidance and reassurance were instrumental in helping me recognize my worth and talent.

Another habit I cultivated was reflecting on my achievements and celebrating my successes, no matter how small. By acknowledging and appreciating my progress, I gradually silenced the inner critic that fueled imposter syndrome. Additionally, I embraced constructive feedback as an opportunity for growth rather than a validation of my self-doubt.

Over time, as I faced and conquered various challenges, I began to embrace a sense of authenticity. I realized that my unique perspective and artistic style were valuable contributions to the makeup industry. Embracing my individuality and embracing the fact that there will always be room for growth allowed me to let go of imposter syndrome.

In summary, overcoming imposter syndrome as a makeup artist took dedication, continuous learning, positive self-belief, and embracing authenticity. Through honing my skills, gaining experience, fostering a supportive network, and cultivating a positive mindset, I was able to paint a new picture for myself and confidently flourish in my career.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey as a makeup artist, there were three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that had the most significant impact on my growth and success:

1. Continuous Learning: The beauty industry is ever-evolving, with new trends, techniques, and products emerging constantly. Embracing a mindset of continuous learning has been crucial for my development as a makeup artist. My advice to those starting their journey is to prioritize learning and stay updated with industry trends. Attend workshops, seminars, and classes to refine your skills and expand your knowledge base. Engage with online communities, follow industry experts, and seek inspiration from various sources. Remember, learning is a lifelong process, and embracing it will keep you ahead of the curve.

2. Adaptability and Versatility: Makeup artistry encompasses a wide range of styles, clients, and occasions. Being adaptable and versatile is essential to cater to different preferences and create diverse looks. My advice is to practice and experiment with various makeup styles and techniques. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and embrace the opportunity to work on different skin tones, face shapes, and themes. Developing versatility will allow you to meet the unique needs of each client and broaden your professional opportunities.

3. Communication and Client Relationships: Building strong relationships with clients is vital as a makeup artist. Effective communication skills, such as active listening and understanding clients’ needs and preferences, are key. My advice is to prioritize building rapport and trust with your clients. Take the time to have detailed consultations, ask questions, and listen attentively to their desires. This will help you create personalized and satisfying makeup experiences. Additionally, always maintain a professional and friendly demeanor, as positive client relationships can lead to referrals and long-term collaborations.

To develop or improve on these qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge, my advice for those starting their journey would be:

– Embrace a growth mindset and have a thirst for knowledge. Seek out opportunities to learn, whether through workshops, online tutorials, or mentorship programs.
– Practice regularly on different skin types, tones, and features to enhance your adaptability and versatility.
– Develop strong interpersonal skills, such as active listening and effective communication. This will help you understand your clients’ needs and establish trust and rapport.
– Seek constructive feedback from mentors or experienced professionals to identify areas for improvement and refine your skills.
– Stay inspired and connected within the industry. Follow makeup artists, brands, and influencers on social media, attend industry events, and network with other professionals.

Remember, your journey as a makeup artist is unique, and it’s important to stay true to your individual style and artistic vision. With dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to growth, you can pave your way to success in this dynamic and rewarding field.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Bible has indeed been a significant book that has played an important role in my personal and ethical development. Its teachings on love, ethics, and wisdom have left a lasting impact on me. While it is challenging to condense the vast wisdom contained in the Bible into just a few nuggets, here are a few valuable and impactful lessons that have resonated with me:

1. The Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This fundamental principle emphasizes treating others with kindness, compassion, and respect. It serves as a guiding principle for ethical behavior and encourages us to consider the well-being of others in our actions.

2. Unconditional Love and Forgiveness: The Bible teaches the power of love and forgiveness. It emphasizes the importance of showing love to others, even in challenging situations. It encourages forgiveness as a transformative act that brings healing and restoration to relationships.

3. Humility and Servanthood: The Bible teaches the value of humility and the beauty of serving others. It reminds us to prioritize the needs of others above our own, to be humble in our interactions, and to use our gifts and talents to benefit the community.

4. Wisdom and Discernment: The Bible provides profound wisdom and guidance for navigating life’s challenges. It offers insights on decision-making, relationships, and personal growth. The Book of Proverbs, in particular, is known for its practical wisdom and timeless advice.

5. Hope and Resilience: Throughout the Bible, there are stories of individuals who faced adversity yet found hope and resilience. These stories inspire us to persevere in difficult times, trust in a higher power, and maintain faith in the face of challenges.

It’s important to note that the wisdom found in the Bible is open to interpretation and can resonate differently with each individual. Its teachings have had a profound impact on my personal values, moral compass, and approach to life. I continue to find solace, guidance, and inspiration in its pages as I strive to live a life guided by love, compassion, and integrity.
