Meet Anita Cordell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anita Cordell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Anita, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’m not sure exactly. But, I honestly think that my purpose found me. In multiple ways. I believe in destiny and paths crossing at the right time. But, not just at the right time, your heart has to be open to challenges and change. When your heart is ready for the challenges and change, then the chance comes. That chance you step into will open the door to your purpose. If we fight the challenges and change, then we most likely will miss the chances that come our way. So, I try and be open to daily moments to embrace. I don’t really believe I follow the ‘carpe diem’ model where you cieze the day. Instead, I break it down to moments. So, I follow the carpe moment lifestyle. I try and cieze the moment and often times my purpose is in the moment. Therefore, my purpose finds me. In my acting, I never intended to be an adult actor. But, when the opportunity to be a part of a large Christmas production came, and I was offered a role, I said yes, which allowed my heart to cross paths and be ready for my purpose.
In real estate, when I got laid off from Corporate America and said yes to a position as a Realtor, my heart was ready for the challenges and change, and therefore when the chance came, I was ready. I think my purpose found me because I said yes to a chance, because my heart was open and ready.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a full-time Realtor in the Kansas City area, as well as I have a large network of agents across the country and into Canada, so my agent to agent referral network is HUGE. I can literally help people all across America and into several other countries. It’s my joy and passion to help people with their real estate needs. In that, I am also able to give back to the community in unique and fun ways. I now have a nonprofit that allows me to help communities rise up. I have produced films that expose social issues, like abuse and trafficking. I am also buying a bike for every transaction that I do in real estate this year, and at Christmas, I will be donating those bikes to children and teens. People will oftentimes tell me how busy I am. My response? “Nope. I’m not busy. I’m intentionally productive.” I want purpose to be in all I do.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I would say that the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey has been my focus on my faith, my courage to step in to the inner drive I have, and then the last quality is trustworthiness. If you are wanting to improve or grow in these qualities, my first piece of advise is to read your Bible everyday. Let that drive you. So many people say they are faith based but never ready the manual. I just don’t understand that. Read the Bible. You will grow as a person every single day. As far as having courage, learn to take risks when it doesn’t always feel secure. Let people hold your hand or walk beside you to feel safer. And, lastly if you are wanting to grow in trustworthiness, then be trustworthy. I have always told my kids, “Live a life to where that if anyone talks about you, no one will believe them.” Live with integrity, even when you are alone. Stay off the bad websites. Live pure. Stay true to integrity. Because once that is gone, it’s hard to ever gain it back.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed, I have to just have a good old fashioned cry for a few minutes. Then, I pick up the phone and call a friend. My advise is to have several great friends who will listen, let you share your struggles, and then not leave you in a state of carrying that burden. Have friends who will lift you up, but also carry you for a moment when you need carried, and then, who will empower you to walk again while injecting you with emotional strength. I believe that it’s important to have several different types of friends. Some will speak into you from a business perspective. Some will speak into you some logic. Others will inject an immense level of faith and joy. Have them all. Call them all. Stay close to them all. Especially if they help you grow by sharing with you a different perspective.
