We were lucky to catch up with Anjali Joshi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Anjali with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I owe my strong work ethic to the values instilled in me by my family and upbringing. My parents and sibling have been instrumental in emphasizing the significance of hard work, responsibility, and dedication in all aspects of life. Growing up, both my mother and father, who were dedicated career professionals with unwavering work ethics, served as exemplary role models.
Witnessing my parents consistently rise early, prepare for work, and be present at their workplaces early in the morning on weekdays became a norm for me. This routine not only normalized the concept of work but also laid the foundation for my understanding that as an adult, I would be expected to follow suit. Their commitment to their professions has been a guiding force, shaping my own approach to work and instilling in me a deep appreciation for the values of diligence and punctuality.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was born and brought up in the vibrant city of Mumbai, India, often referred as the “city of dreams,” where the seeds of my own dreams first began to sprout.
After completing high school, I devoted a year to refining my foundational skills, laying the groundwork for a challenging four-year expedition in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Art & Craft. Currently, I find myself immersed in the captivating realm of Graphic Design and Visual Experience, undertaking my Masters at the esteemed Savannah College of Art & Design.
Throughout my academic journey, I have cultivated a profound understanding of the skills essential for navigating the intricate landscapes of creativity.
In the realm of my professional endeavors, I proudly identify as a Multidisciplinary Creative, delivering a diverse range of outputs such as graphic designs, communication designs, illustrations, type designs, packaging design, and branding. My specialization lies in the intricate field of UI/UX Design. Whether faced with complexity or challenge, my commitment is unwavering as I strive to provide innovative solutions to my clients. What makes my work truly exciting and meaningful is my dedication to infusing each creation with a purpose or meaning.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my personal perspective, I hold the belief that each individual can greatly benefit from embracing the principle of ABCD, encapsulating a holistic approach to life. Within this acronym, ‘A’ signifies Aim, encouraging individuals to set clear and meaningful objectives for themselves. ‘B’ stands for Balance, emphasizing the importance of maintaining equilibrium across various aspects of life to foster well-rounded personal development. Moving on to ‘C,’ which represents Consistency, I advocate for the idea that persistent efforts over time yield substantial results, promoting a steady and sustainable progress. Lastly, ‘D’ stands for Dedication, underscoring the significance of wholehearted commitment to one’s pursuits, as it serves as the driving force behind the realization of goals. In essence, the ABCD philosophy serves as a guiding compass, steering individuals towards purposeful living, harmonious equilibrium, steadfast commitment, and enduring consistency in their endeavours.
One important message I’d like to impart to my readers is the significance of pursuing a career that resonates with your heart, one that nurtures the best version of yourself rather than causing unnecessary stress. Discovering your passion and aligning it with a fulfilling career path can contribute immensely to your personal well-being and overall success.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When feeling overwhelmed, it’s important to take a step back and recharge. One effective strategy is to set aside the task at hand and take a break. Personally, I find solace in art journaling—a unique form of self-expression involving cutting, pasting, sticking, stamping, and writing. This creative outlet serves as my escape, allowing me to pour out my thoughts. In situations where journaling isn’t feasible, such as in a workplace, taking a short walk can be refreshing. These activities act as a reset, offering a mental breather and helping me regain focus and energy.
