Meet Ann Selene

We recently connected with Ann Selene and have shared our conversation below.

Ann, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from observing outcomes and having big dreams. I have also watched others. It is one of those things, where over time (and this was a hard lesson to learn) you realize how much you are truly in control of your reality. I began to see how the way that we speak to ourselves, the way we perceive things can shape the world around us.

So, in times of hardship I do my best to look at the positives. An example would be, if you are moving and found a home you wanted but it didn’t pan out in the end. Maybe you were not suppose to be in that neighborhood, or perhaps that route to work wouldn’t be the best later on down the line. I truly believe there are reasons for everything. It is just up to us, to make the best out of it.

I have been witness to individuals who say things like “that’s just my luck” in a negative tone or other phrases such as “yeah well I probably wont get it.” Then the end result is, that they do not. Then there are others who say things like “I would love to have this, or if there is something better.”

You just have to be willing to be open and don’t forget to observe. Being an eternal student I feel, is number one.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My story really begins being a stay at home mom. I was full time homeschooling two of my three children. I had been a life long experiencer of the paranormal and through one of our lessons, I was teaching about the development of electricity and entertainment. This led me down the path to old time radio shows and podcasts. It was when I learned about paranormal podcasts I became a part of the paranormal community online. Eventually, I went on a pre-recorded interview to tell about my experiences.

It was after the interview that there were so many messages, telling me that they too- had those same or similar experiences. It was such a profound experience and honestly a very healing one. Growing up attending a healing group (which was where we were learning massage and energy healing- in the form of reiki) that I felt this calling. I found podcasting as a way to facilitate healing. I wanted to offer yet another platform where experiencer’s could come and tell their stories.

From here, I met so many other podcasters. I learned of their stories and I could see the true heart they were putting into their work. I wanted to create a place for them as well. I wanted to celebrate what they were doing and share on a bigger scale so I created my online digital broadcasting network KPNL Radio. Which has now been on air for 3 years. Over time this community and the people on the network, they begin to feel like family.

This was also part of what inspired me to continue chasing after my dreams and become an author. The book that I wrote called Aperture in the Veil: Born in a Preternatural World. After talking with so many people and hearing so many stories, I thought that first- it would be important for me to write down everything from my earliest memories up to this current time of all the spooky and strange experiences that I had. I wanted to leave something behind for my children, in the event that they were to ever have any experiences themselves. Then as I began to write it, I realized that many could benefit from this. It took a bit of bravery to reach out and show it to a publisher but I did it. I found that courage from looking at others who had come before me. I remember that moment when I finally signed my contract and this was going to become a real book. Now- I have a second book signed that is currently in the works!

It has been an honor being on this journey, connecting with so many. In fact I have recently become a speaker at a couple of paranormal conferences. I am hoping to continue my journey as a speaker as well as I will be continuing to work on my second book!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think one of the most important things is to:

1. Forgive yourself
2.Be gentle on yourself
3. Don’t compare yourself to others.

We are all uniquely us and that is one of the biggest gifts that we can give to the world. Our experiences, our mannerisms, who we are is our gift. It is what sets us apart. Being different is something that should be celebrated. I know that it has been important in regards to research as well because when we share our own thoughts and ideas it can unlock new areas of thought and research.

Forgiving yourself and being gentle on yourself is also key. Sometimes stepping out of our comfort zone can be scary and awkward. When we feel those emotions maybe we aren’t on top like we normally would be but that happens to us all, even professionals. We are human.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I would actually have to list two books here. The first is by Anthony DeMello Awareness: The Perils and Opportunities of Reality. As well as The Hermetica by Freke & Gandy. Both books speak to the power of the mind. How our thoughts create the reality that we live in.

So, how we perceive things. For example, in “Awareness” by Anthony DeMello, I learned the importance of self-awareness and how it can liberate us from mental conditioning. DeMello emphasizes that many of our beliefs and behaviors are shaped by societal norms and conditioning, and by becoming aware of these patterns, we gain the power to change them. One impactful nugget of wisdom from this book is that we often mistake our thoughts and beliefs for reality, but true awareness requires us to question and examine these thoughts.

In “The Hermetica” by Freke & Gandy, I delved into the ancient teachings of Hermeticism. This book opened my eyes to the idea that there is a deep connection between the macrocosm (the universe) and the microcosm (individuals). The Hermetic principles, such as the principle of correspondence (“As above, so below”), reminded me that we are interconnected with the cosmos, and our thoughts and actions have ripple effects in the grand scheme of things.

In conclusion, these two books have been instrumental in my personal development by teaching me the significance of self-awareness and the interconnectedness of our thoughts with the broader universe. They’ve shown me that by understanding and mastering our own minds, we can shape our reality and lead more fulfilling lives.
