Meet Anthony Catchings

We recently connected with Anthony Catchings and have shared our conversation below.

Anthony , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Obtaining authenticity inside of identity has its challenges! Growing up, hearing “there is something about you thats different” was always interesting to hear, to the point where I started to ask myself “what is actually different”? To me, I thought I did everything everyone else did lol..

Overtime, from my life experiences I’ve learned a few things about myself including my imperfections. In order to be effective, Its important to capture the areas of opportunity to grow and the areas of strength. The areas strength included but not limited to; compassion, ambition, determined, loving, good listener, supportive of people, musically talented, gifted, smart, innovator, leadership, like to laugh, smile, good listener, family oriented, adventurous, trend setter and so much more. The areas of opportunity to grow were; close minded, hard on myself, over thinker, toxic independency and other areas I buried unknowingly.

Furthermore, understanding my character from an holistic view has/is helping me carry stability in every room
I enter. It’s understanding that when I walk in a room that I’m in competition with no one, it’s understanding that whatever I have can be a benefit to at least 1 person in that room. Being effective in a room also comes with understanding that I can learn something from someone as well. I realized I was just as important and had value to contribute.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
What’s up everyone, I’m Anthony Catchings, I am a Information Technology Business Analyst and a guy who loves to write and sing music.

I’ve have been in IT now for one year, managing scopes and high level business requirements.

In addition, I am currently working in my new music now with charting producer named “Nathan Walters” on a song titled “BREATHING”. The love I have for music connects me to life, providing me with purpose that God has provided for me to reach the hearts of people. My love for helping/supporting people through my music has landed me on talk shows, radio interviews and so much more.

This fall I am launching my clothing line “Authentic Culture” which will represent people understanding identity through individuality, relationship, careers, and life in general and it’s importance.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Some of the qualities that helped me become successful is the ability to welcome constructive criticism, ask for help, time management.

Over the years I’ve learned to be honest with self and where it is I’m I wanted to go first. Sometimes we try to be everything for everyone at the risk of losing ourselves. But I’ve learned you can still pursue individual goals by asking for help, networking, planning, writing that vision and executing it.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
In full transparency, the challenge I’m overcoming now is reducing myself, limiting my talents in areas of my life that brings me happiness/Joy.
