Meet Apollo Maréchal

We were lucky to catch up with Apollo Maréchal recently and have shared our conversation below.

Apollo, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Creativity is more of a lifestyle thing for me. My inspiration comes mostly from my own experiences. I’m always exposing myself to different surroundings. I also listen to different genres to help me expand and grow as an artist. I don’t want to confine myself into one specific title.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Apart from being an artist, I’m also a student at the University of Colorado Denver. I plan on majoring in computer science which has absolutely nothing to do with music. I’m new to the music scene but music has always been a big part of my life. Also, my second song ever made was featured on a radio station here in Denver, 104.7 The Drop.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1.) Take risks! I was always hesitant to put myself out there because of competition. It wasn’t until my friend AJ Angles, a close friend and artist pushed me into going to my first studio session with Yemi. 2.) Have patience. Nothing good in life comes easy and can take time. You just have to keep working and don’t give up on your dream.
3.) Taking criticism. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice and input. It’s your choice whether to listen and take their advice. Don’t take anything personal but try and see if you can learn from it.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I can’t just name one person in this case. AJ Angles did get me into my first studio session but another artist and friend of mine, Kidd Buuwop, helped get me into my first show and has helped me build my stage presence. Both have encouraged me to keep going and have given me helpful advice on my music journey.
