Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to April A. Hibler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi April A., appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I come from a long line of people who’ve beautifully and consistently transcended adversity! Having a front row seat to that type of undeniable determination and ironclad evolution has gifted me resiliency time and again. Failure has been one of my greatest teachers. Sometimes failing has a way of shutting people down and making them second guess themselves. I have learned that mistakes make me grow stronger and better. My quest to become my greatest self is attributed to my ability to stay focused and resilient. Since the pandemic, I have experienced many challenges in my previous journey as an educator. The knowledge I have now has made my scope much clearer and given me the opportunity to pave my own path as the entrepreneur I was always destined to become.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was in the education field for 17 years where I served in various capacities (teacher, student services coordinator, school counselor, instructional coach etc.) during the pandemic I started to reevaluate and reassess my career. There was a need for me to rebrand myself and more closely align my creative passions with my true calling, becoming a serial entrepreneur. After losing my mother in December 2022, it further occurred to me that I needed to get into to gear immediately. My main focuses are growing my hair business, Hair by Hibby and my event planning/networking lifestyle brand company, The Kulture of Bliss. Although these ventures are based in my beloved hometown of Memphis, TN, I have complete faith that they will become global! Stepping out on faith, believing in myself and pouring into my dreams has reinvented MY WILL so to speak. As a stylist being able to curate a unique experience for my clients heavily immersed in the art of self care is rewarding. Also, as an experience curator that crafts custom events for clients through the Kulture of Bliss I find joy in seeing clients watch their spoken visions come to life. Deciding to give my life more meaning by walking in my gifts is it’s own reward!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My three most important qualities would hands down have to be patience, kindness and love. These things are foundational for me and make me the person I am today! No matter how hectic life gets we must always make it a priority to be patient with ourselves and each other. Practice kindness in even the simplest ways and allow love to flow freely in our actions! Being a light in this world isn’t always easy, but it makes for a fruitful existence and legacy.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was let me be myself. They were great stewards of the journey by being open, honest, and supportive of me, but they never tried to make me a carbon copy of themselves or anyone else. I have always had the privilege of knowing just who I was and being true to my blueprint. The gift of having parents that respected and understood that has afforded me the opportunity to give this gift to others, this is priceless!
