April, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I grew up in a large family and without a lot of money. I had to learn to be resourceful. If I wanted something, I had to work for it. It was just a fact of life. I’ve learned that I can create a lot of my destiny. It requires you to show up and give quality work, which usually results in be rewarded for your efforts.
Over the years, I’ve learned that you can really enhance your world by building bridges, showing kindness, and giving more grace. I have a long way to go on fine tuning my work ethic, but more than anything, I love my job. It’s easy to show up and work with my patients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I own My PT 2 Go, a concierge Physical Therapy clinic that does mobile, clinic, and telehealth visits. We specialize in Orthopedics, Sports Injuries, and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. For Pelvic Floor, we treat all ages and genders, so it ranges from bedwetting to incontinence to erectile dysfunction. All of our therapists are athletes, so we love to help our patients return to the sports and hobbies that they love, using research as our guide.
We now offer Strength Training classes for Runners/Athletes as well as sessions on our treadmill, Light Speed Lift, that allows you to run with less impact. We want runners and athletes to be able to continue to participate in the sport they love while they heal.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Research and Expertise in Physical Therapy and Sport 2. Communication and Listening Skills with our Patients
3. Grace and Kindness
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I run! It’s really important that I get outside and get my body moving. I often say that running is my personal psychologist, where I get to dissect the issue at hand, enjoy the fresh air, and get my wiggles out. After a run, I can often handle the situation so much better with a clear head and a better attitude.
