We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aria. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aria below.
Aria, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I believe my optimism comes from not thinking nothing bad will ever happen, but rather understanding that if something bad does happen, I have the ability and the skillsets to overcome it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a recording artist and two-time terminal cancer survivor. I graduated college with a BFA in music, released my debut album in 2017 and completed a solo four month US tour! After relearning to walk and talk due to a debilitating car wreck I now works in the cancer and mental health communities as a speaker and trauma coach while continuing to heal and empower through my music. After releasing a single a month, I am now working on a journal-like album that is all recorded live.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Finding my niche was really important. I think as artists we must understand that there are many talented people, what sets us apart is our story and unique life experiences.
Remembering that the “how” is not my job has been exponentially helpful as well. We sometimes have one way we think something should come to fruition when in reality our job is to know our “why”, create, and follow the signs we are given.
Lastly, I think it was most impactful when I learned to figure out what my biggest life problem was and then solve that problem for other people.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Coming back from my crash I had to relearn to walk, talk and regain all of my motor skills. Currently, I am reentering the music world, going to and playing shows and writing music again. It is challenging to reenter a world I was so familiar with in a new and completely unfamiliar way. I am learning to be gentle with myself and to accept that where I am in my skill is exactly where I need to be.
