Meet Ashley Jeter

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Jeter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ashley , thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My self discipline comes from , wanting to give my daughter a great childhood, show her what great work ethic looks like, hard work looks like. She drives me in ways I would have never imagined. It helps to keep me disciplined because I have someone watching me, and I want her to be proud.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a self taught digital artist, who started drawing on paper initially at the age of 2 years old. Art has always been my first love, it has always be with me. I’ve always be an introvert, so it wasn’t always easy for me to make friends in school. But for some reason because of my drawing gift it attracted people to me. A wise teacher of mines in school told me as long as I continue to use my every emotion in my art I would always be inspired as well as touch many. I have taken that with me since I heard it in high school. I started my brand black art is beauty in 2021, which was just digital art print on Etsy when I first started. But has now expanded to a luxury unisex street wear brand. My brand is now going on three years, I look forward to this year and all god has in store for me and my brand. My goal is to eventually collaborate with stores like Zara with exclusive collections, Amazon, black designers and business owners like Monroe Steele, Nichole Lynel, maybe Rihanna and I can collaborate and come u with a street wear collection.. And as far as my art I would love to work with companies like target, essence magazine, black hair care lines like pattern, carols daughter, and Tabitha browns hair line Donna’s recipe . I look forward to one day having my art illustrations in magazines, books, on large companies like Apple. Those are just some dreams of mines.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
You have to have determination, be a savage, and have creativity . You’re going to need those skills in order to run a business in a highly saturated industries like art and retail. Because when you want to give up your going to need to have determination, when you are tired and want to give you your going to need to be a savage and push harder than you’ve ever push yourself. And you will definitely need creativity when your writer’s block comes up. You have to find inspiration to push through your writer’s block in order to continue to have to have success. And lastly whatever entity you may believe in you’re going to need it to push through when you want to throw in the towel, because this isn’t an easy business.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal customer would be Rihanna, she just has such an edgy but sexy personality. It’s the perfect combination, or trace ellis Ross I just love her quirkiness and uniqueness.
