Meet Ashley Rigaud

We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Rigaud recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ashley, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Starting out in the fashion industry, I didn’t see many young women who looked like me especially in South Florida. However I quickly learned that my unique vision was something that wasn’t seen before.

My work ethic and ability to create unique projects, allowed me to not only stand out but be successful within my field.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
To start off, my story is very different from probably most. When I was about 17 I reached out to a celebrity fashion stylist named Joe Xclusive. I explained my passion of wanting to be in the fashion world as a stylist. I didn’t hear back till about two weeks later where I was asked to intern for a photo shoot.

The featured guest was from two hit reality shows such as love & hip hop and real housewives of Atlanta. I assisted celebrity stylist Leon frager and began to kick off my career. From there I managed to style for upcoming artist, cast from real housewives of Miami, Miami dolphin cheerleader, New York fashion week in which I created my own event, Miami fashion week & more.

I managed to launch my own agency “the vanguard House”, which is now Ash + Ley Co. I’m currently revamping and seeking to dive back into styling and continuing to offer social media & consulting services.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say being kind really helped me, I know it sounds simple but many people in the industry underestimate how being a good person can actually help you to grow.

If I could give advice, I would say stay consistent even during the slow seasons. Continue to network and don’t be afraid to reach out to others!

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I would say becoming a mom really impacted how I want to navigate my business and how I want to rebrand myself. My daughter is now that extra push to really create a mark for myself.
