We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley Shelley . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.
Hi Ashley , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from the well of optimism, with which I must have been born. I have an interesting relationship with resilience as I have had to make many present moment decisions to choose to identify and engage with perseverance with hope that it will be worth the effort.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder of Melanin & Mindfulness, llc., a private therapy practice in Nashville, Tn. I work with adult clients as well as some early adolescents, working to consistently provide quality and effective therapeutic services that encourage mindful living, with meaningful, and sustainably progressive outcomes. Promoting engagement in mental health practices with a variety of methods within minority communities has been one of my primary focuses.
I am also a certified yoga instructor and have a guided mediation album on streaming platforms, Me & Mi Meditation Vol. 1. Private yoga sessions, guided meditation, and tarot sessions are a few of my additional therapeutic offerings.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Learning to practice flexibility, taking risks, and trusting my decisions have been the most impactful areas of knowledge on my journey. Offerings of advice for those in the early stages of their journey is to notice any opportunities to lean into and be attentive to change, both subtle and significant.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Whenever I notice that I feel overwhelmed, I practice choosing to be curious about myself. Where might I need supportive attention and how might I extend that to myself. Try it.
