We were lucky to catch up with Ashlyn Colette recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashlyn, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Optimism takes consistent cultivation. Everything influences your mindset and your ability to have a positive outlook on life. I had to change a lot of outside influence that I was mentally ingesting. It started with the people that I was around. I was in this pattern where I thought that teasing someone was a form of Love. It was really just a misguided way of showing someone affection, while still keeping them at a distance by insulting them. I then realized the music I was listening to was angry and rough, and it reflecting how I was feeling at the time. Then it went to my social medias. I kept fine tuning these outside influences, while also fine tuning myself and evolving into a more optimistic version. You don’t realize how influential all of these external inputs are until you change them. I wanted to show up for myself and other better, I wanted to be someone that lifted others up, and I couldn’t do that with the outlook I had. If you want to see the good in the world, you have to focus there.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a sound bath therapy practitioner. Which, depending on how deep you want to get, essentially means I play peaceful music to help ease the nervous system and our mind. I integrate different modalities to help navigate emotions, and help people feel more empowered within their own lives. I recently launched my website, and am now open to the public!
I also design t shirts and other apparel to spread positive messaging to one another. My brand is all about self acceptance and building connection.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think one of the best skills is just being open. Being open to possibility, to what others have to say, to the idea that the way you think it as to be is not the only way to do something. Something that has really helped me is truly listening to others, hearing their perspective, and seeing them where they are. When we listen to others, and they truly feel heard, that is when they can reflect on their ideas safely. Instead of feeling like they have to explain themselves.
School has never been my form of learning, but I do think that we always need to learn. Finding things that interest you and following that curiosity has lead me to some wonderful places. There is so little that we truly know, so why not explore it?
The journey is long, do not feel rushed. Take it one step at a time. Change comes from acceptance. Also, learn when to pivot.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am all about building community and connecting with one another. I feel like a sound bath can be integrated with endless other modalities. Acupuncture, yoga, massage therapy. It can also be involved in so many social gatherings as background music. People do not have to be lying down or silent in order to obtain the benefits of the healing vibration. I am open to all the possibilities of collaboration. Lets rise together 🙂
