We were lucky to catch up with Audra Thompson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Audra, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
This has been a difficult one! I feel like every artist at some point struggles with imposter syndrome. To be honest, I just had to keep creating. Trying different ideas, different styles…. And one day it just clicked! “This is me! This is my style, my designs! I’m good enough!!” I have had great people rally around me, but ultimately I had to trust myself!!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My mom taught me as a very young girl about hard work. We lived on a farm, had lots of animals, grew a garden, canned our own food. So we worked!
Showing up!! That’s a huge one. Every. Stinking. Day! No matter what! It’s half the battle.
And always keep growing. Networking has been a great way to learn and build my skill set.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love collaborative work. I’m currently working with Korah Kids to help raise money for their home for girls in Ethiopia.
I also have a couple amazing women who are working with me to share my love for making jewelry.
I was inspired years ago by Betsy Johnson’s work! I want people to wear my jewelry as proudly as people have worn hers!!!
