We were lucky to catch up with Avid Eghbali recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Avid , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
My imposter syndrome is tied between the two sides of filmmaking, the creative side and the logistical side. I think as an artist, imposter syndrome is a default state of being. I think the way to answer how to overcome it starts with figuring out how to live with it. The reason I believe I sometimes have it is because im constantly learning new techniques or learning new material that gets me one step closer to mastering my craft. Currently at the age of 27 i’m lost between which craft I want to master. The creative side or the logistical side, why not both I say. The way I overcome imposter syndrome is knowing that there are outcomes without my control that put me in the creative side or the logistical side, and the only way to overcome it is by giving it same weight of importance in how to allocate my energy. Being fluid like water is how I navigate my imposter syndrome, I know that I dont know everything about my craft, but I am constantly learning. Now with that I take what I know and what I dont know and use my intuition to execute and take action. I dream of just being able to be a master in both crafts but till then I must be a student.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Avid Eghbali, the founder of 3 Lines Studio. I own a photo & film studio where we handle everything from music videos to commercials, photography, social media, events, and more. Born in Iran and raised in Los Angeles, I spent most of my time divided between pursuing the arts and the sciences. After graduating with a bachelor’s in chemistry, I realized my passion lies not in the sciences, but in the arts. I believe that human complexity & emotions should be expressed through all forms of art. Filmmaking & photography are the mediums through which I choose to express myself. I am following my purpose to be a producer, director, editor, & educator because I believe that this form of art carries a cultural impact that can change the world by creating unity and relatability in life.
I am currently focused on building my studio near North Hollywood, California. This is the hub of my production company where I run my day-to-day operations. Being only 2 years into owning my studio, I am excited to announce the growth it has experienced in becoming a creative content house, an event and workshop space, and a podcast studio. My goal for the next few years is to produce projects in-house and connect a community of filmmakers to my resources.
The mission of 3 Lines Studio is to collaborate, teach, and connect filmmaking & photography to the upcoming generations of storytellers who experience cultural restrictions in pursuing the arts. That being said, 3 Lines Studio is the production hub for creating your art, your way.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
“Be like water” means being fluid enough to change between positions and jobs in the industry. In order to succeed properly, I believe everyone needs to learn how to wear multiple hats in the business. I know ultimately everyone says they want to be a Director, Actor, or DP, but I think over time, learning everything about day-to-day operations will one day enable you to achieve the luxury of just wearing one hat.
Where I am currently in my life is nowhere close to that luxury, but I have found myself grateful to be making a living in an industry that is very competitive. The main way I have been able to do that is by being fluid enough to wear multiple hats across multiple projects, while simultaneously directing, shooting, producing, and operating my studio facility.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am open to partnering and collaborating with individuals who share a passion for creativity and innovation. I’m particularly interested in working with fellow filmmakers, photographers, artists, content creators, and those involved in the entertainment industry. Whether it’s on specific projects, workshops, events, or educational initiatives, I believe in the power of collaboration to elevate ideas and create impactful work.
If you’re reading this and interested in collaborating, I encourage you to reach out through my studio’s website or social media channels. You can connect with me directly via email or through direct messages on platforms like Instagram or LinkedIn. I’m always excited to explore new opportunities and collaborate with like-minded individuals who are driven to make a difference in the world of arts and entertainment. Let’s create something amazing together!
