Meet Beoncia Dunn

We recently connected with Beoncia Dunn and have shared our conversation below.

Beoncia, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by continuing to dream while trusting God with my Life. I was always an Artist & Creative since I was a little girl, but adults were constantly reminding Me that art is a hobby not a career. Unfortunately, the reminders seeped in for a while, but I was able to overcome them. Along my journey, I took a few odd jobs for a while, but I used that time to clear the noise. My season of stillness helped Me learn how to trust God to lead Me into my purpose. During that time my dreams had become intense with some messages that were loud and clear. My dreams redirected my heart towards my true purpose. It was evident that my dreams were prophetic visuals showing Me as an Artist making an impact on this Earth through my work. Hence, why I created the quote, “Let The Arts Move You” — Beoncia Dunn.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Wardrobe Stylist, Visual Artist & Creative Director from Atlanta, Georgia.

I love to curate art that makes you feel. However, what you feel from my work is up to your own interpretation.

My personal experiences have been a bold mix of both African American & West Indian Culture that deeply impacts my StoryTelling. I am who I am because of My Mother, a Southern Woman & Style Icon who nurtured me straight out of the womb, and My Father, a hardworking Immigrant from Trinidad & Multi Hyphenated Creative.

My passion lies in constantly exploring unconventional ways to create art and tell unique stories through different mediums. My purpose is to utilize my gifts to create art that has the power to impact the world through love & enlightenment. I am a vessel. As an artist, my work is meant to uplift and impact my people to continue to press forward & upward.

My next goal is to land a few residencies as a Visual Artist and have my first solo show before the end of 2023. Always remember, no matter how long or hard the journey, what is meant for You will always find You.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance, Athleticism & Creativity are three qualities/skills that are most impactful in my journey. I had a lot of hard seasons throughout my life and sometimes I didn’t see an ending through some of the hardships, but creating Art kept Me sane. Athleticism gave me Heart and Drive to press through no matter if I foresaw the other side of the storm or not. Creativity is embedded within my DNA so it’s the fuel I need to keep me proactive as an Artist. We are all on assignment in this World so we have to find out what we’re most passionate about and leave our mark on this Earth .. in this LifeTime !

If you don’t know what your purpose is just embrace your season of stillness and it will be revealed to you. Remember, everyone’s path is different, so your purpose could very well be fulfilling your journey as a parent, mentor, youth counselor, global politician, essential worker or just being a good neighbor. You never know how impactful you are by just pursuing your purpose, and whatever that might be just remember that We are apart of something much bigger than Us.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My most recent challenge was healing from an experience that left a deep wound in my heart, but my friend Sherrise Marshalleck helped me heal from it by constantly pouring into Me. She encouraged Me to stay the course & to never shrink myself in any space !!

A few years back I accomplished completing a big project that I worked on for 1 year. BUT .. I was also experiencing heartbreak in that same season. I had been miscounted for all of the hard work I’d contributed to the project that was released & celebrated. At that time, Sherrise was coaching me through some business courses that she’d put together. I was being taught by a premium leader in the industry & dear friend, but I couldn’t really process all of the information because I was hurting. While she was teaching a small voice was asking Me, “What’s the point of learning this? What if you get cheated again? Would all of your hard work be unrecognized, AGAIN?”

That hurt had become louder than my accomplishments. I couldn’t even celebrate myself for staying in the fight. I chose to stay silent about it because I didn’t want to disrupt her course, but Sherrise sensed that hurt. She paused the course for a minute to pour into me.

Not only did we finish her courses, but I left empowered and ready to do the work to start my journey to healing. I had to unpack that hurt & heal from it. In addition, her book “I AM AND I WILL” became my dose of encouragement throughout my healing process.

She wanted to make sure I understood clearly that, “You have to get out of Your own way & Never shrink Yourself for AnyBody .. Always let God Lead”. Sherrise is a phenomenal Leader, Mentor, Artist, Author & Friend. No matter where she goes in life she will always be authentic in any space.
