Meet Berta Negari

We recently connected with Berta Negari and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Berta , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is an innate human quality that can be cultivated and practiced. Life’s struggles can take us by surprise. But learning healthy ways to move through adversity is the key to leading a good life.It can help us cope better or at least start heading in the right direction. To answer your question honestly , I have to say that my resilience comes from within me. Although I have a great support system in my family, I looked inwards to overcome the many struggles that I faced in life.
Art came to me at a time when I most needed it. It has had the most positive effect on me and has completely transformed me into what I am today.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Berta Negari , is best known for her Contemporary free flow abstracts creating zen like floral images . She has manifested infinite dimensions within herself to create her own artistic vocabulary. To say that she is prolific is a mild statement. Negari produces works with an intensity and magnitude that churns out work after work involuntarily, which can be best described as an “out of body” sort of an experience. Negari started painting in the later part of her life and with a reason.

I have spent the larger part of my life as an entrepreneur before foraying into art.The call to paint came later in life but at a time when I most needed it. I am a self taught artist but when I started painting, the feeling was almost as if I had been painting for the whole of my life. I have survived many storms in my life and so when I was diagnosed with cancer, I told myself
“You are going to survive this!”. Most of my works tell powerful stories of courage, hope and faith. My passion for life and my capacity to love in a challenging or disabling experience has taught me a lot about compassion, forgiveness and freedom which I represent in my works a great deal. I am also delighted that I am able to inspire and help others to succeed in their endeavors, be it work or otherwise. If I am able to continue doing this my whole life, I feel that it will be a life well lived.
2024 has started well and I hope to continue my work in my original style but I would definitely like to work with other medium and extend my repertoire of work without being daunted by the challenges of the commercial art world. At some point, I would also like to go digital as I feel the genre of my art has an immersive and experiential quality that can well be translated to a digital version. I hope to explore that genre soon.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think courage patience and originality are the three virtues that I have always strived to live by. Whether it is on a professional or a personal level, these qualities are always enduring and enriching. My advice to those who are early in their journey is, “ Nothing happens overnight and hard work never fails to pay”. The world is now on “dial 10” and everything is on a fast mode and therefore the proverbial “success” is also perceived to be on the same fast mode. If hard work and patience are practised consistently , I feel success is never too far.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I have always been open to collaborations and I feel that is the only way to grow in today’s world. As an artist, I am happy to work with patrons of art, whether it is an individual or an entity. I would like to potentially partner with digital media companies for tech art and immersive and experiential art. Large works in public spaces is another potential area for collaboration.
